I seem to have an infestation of these on my Hibiscus Bushes. Not that I mind terribly much - they are great subjects ! There are great variations in individuals , both ♂ & ♀ , as well as the nymphs. Looking at the images now, I think stacking would be a better way to go...

Nikonian, - high praise indeed from you. You are the guru here - would you say stacking is the way to go ? They are not very animated subjects...or do you have any other advise ?

Ozzie - nice, IMHO DoF on the first two photos looks good. I don't think stacking is going to be a real benefit for these subjects as shot. Third subject shows DoF trailing off towards the rear. Stacking would help bring this subject in complete focus.

If you get a chance upload the files with the store original box ticked. This will help in giving you a more complete evaluation of your photos. What settings (Aperture, shutter speed, iso) were you using?

Good

I shoot Nikon. 105mm. Nymph =ISO 300, 1/200-sec at f/3.2
♂ = ISO 500 1/60-sec at f/18
♀ = ISO 500 1/180-sec at f/11

Hope that tells you what you need - I can see now why the Nymph is not so good.

Yes, f/3.2 is the reason you have shallow depth of field but from the other settings I can see why you or the camera selected this, faster shutter speed and lower ISO. Tell us a bit more about your setup, in particular the illumination, what model camera are you using and what mode are you shooting in manual or priority?

I have a D7000 - used the built-in flash for a bit of fill-in, handheld , and I shoot Aperture Priority as a rule - at least these were.. (I am a baby-photographer...)

Fine camera and actually results are more impressive considering you shot it in aperture priority with popup. If you wish to persue macro and get consistent results you are going to need to switch to manual mode and use a speedlight for illumination. Do you have a speedlight?
