my uncle was awarded the bronze star at Anzio, he was kinda a nerd long before the word was known. He and his company had landed on the beach and had made their way inland, when they came under fire of some hidden German artillery. Someone had called in the coridinates and they were wrong so my Uncle pulled out his trusty slide rule and figured the correct trajectory, had the new cordinates called in, which eliminated the german position saving the lives of many in his company. My dad was korea era being sent to still called occupied west germany. My friends father was in charge of the 2nd landing craft 2nd wave Omaha beach. He survied d-day, and was sent with his landing craft to the Philipines for the Invasion of Japan. I tried to join the Navy but failed the vision requirements. I do tell people that I served my country for 6 years as a POLICE OFFICER.

Wonderful shots. I would like to thank all veterans for their service. Mid 60's, USS Saratoga, CVA-60.

I'm curious...is that poster an antique from WWII?

Honor the sacrifices of the many who have fallen. I am retired military with 42½ years service. Do not forget that the top 0.01% of the population that controls 60% of the wealth and income of this country - - did not serve at all. NO contribution to the security of our nation!!! Yet the security provided by all who have served and sacroficed has provided the environment that protected their ability to accumulate this incredible wealth. The right wingers need to think about that!

sam walton's son served as a green beret in viet nam. Jfk was sent to the pacific because the FBI caught him sleeping with a hungarian woman who was a spy for the NAZ"s. Henry Ford jr was released from militarry service to take over Ford when his dad died. LBJ got himself released from military service to run for congress. Jimmy Stewart flew bombers in WW2 and staed in the Air Force Reserve retiting a Brigader General. George W bush flew fighter interceptors for the Air National Guard. Neither Bill clinton nor barry obama served one day in the military. In fact barry's administration has the fewest number of veterans in it. The .01% includes many left wing millonares such as george soros, bill gates, sean penn, barbara streshand, woppi goldberg, woody harreilson, all who never served. Unlike Lee marvin who seved in the Big Red One during ww2, Jamie farr who was the only actual korean war veteran on MASH. The .01% also owns the industrial might of this country to produce the weapons needed to fight. In addition they top 1% in this country pays 70% of the taxes, and nearly 50% of the population pays nothing in federal income tax. In order to have capitalism it requires capitalists. Instead of Occupy wall street, how about occupy ECONOMIC REALITY. The left needs to think period. Better yet the left needs to move to the wonderfull workers paradise of North Korea.
