I have a nikon d7100 and a viv-rc6-nik remote shutter release but I cannot get the remote release working with the camera.
Settings: Shooting menu... remote control mode .... quick response remote.
Custom settings c5 remote on duration 10 min.
Battery of the remote tested OK
I often use one of this type and they work very well, but the device must be pointed at the Infra Red sensor on your camera. On mine the sensor is on the front Left, some Nikons have one on the front and one on the back.
Is your shooting mode sub-dial turned to Remote? Menu settings make no difference if it is not.
The Nikon D7100 has no remote mode on the mode subdial.

You are right, I had forgotten they took that off the dial when they made it WR capable. It should work by turning the Remote Control Mode in your Shooting Menu.
Also, I see the remote you linked contains "RC6" in the description, that is a Canon designation. The Nikons need the ML-L3 designation to work with them. Canon and Nikon IR units are not interchangeable. Maybe your aftermarket remote is not operating at the correct Nikon IR frequency, many of these aftermarket products have serious compatibility issues.
It also contains NIK which means Nikon

Its SUPPOSED to indicate Nikon, but if its RC6 frequency as indicated, the NIK means diddly squat.
It worked with the d7000.
Then you obviously have a user error situation so all I can do is refer you to page 127 of your D7100 manual. Good luck.
I'll try again, otherwise I'll try to get the authentic Nikon.
