This may already have been beaten to death, but maybe not. This Mieke Nikon D7000 Battery Pac & Grip, when mounted to my D7000 seems to drain the battery. There is a small green led adjacent to the Info button on the back of the D7000. Without the battery pac it is dormant when the camera is off It lights up momenratily on power up, then goes off. With the power pac affixed and switched off, as is the camera, this green led comes to life at the slightest movement of the camera. Have any of you "Hoggers" experirnced this situation, and is it normal or is my Mieke shorting out somewhere?

It should not do this. Don't have an answer for you but here is something you might like to know. I once tried the Meike batt grip also some others that I later found out were all made by Meike. Bottom line, had to return every one of them! Ended up opening wallet and purchasing the Nikon grip. Since then for my other camera I took a chance and bought a Vello grip after reading good things about it notably Matt Grainger's review. My opinion is this grip is about as close to the Nikon as you can get. Performs flawlessly and even looks exactly like the original. Hope this may be of some help if you just purchased the grip and have to return it.

Even with the battery removed from the tray the LED continues to sporadically illuminate. Very frustrating.

There is a myriad of issues with most all of these Chinese knock-off battery grips, some very minor and others quite annoying. Its the price you pay for buying these off-brand items. Much of the time these small annoyances are easily lived with because of having saved a couple hundred dollars. I personally had a Meike, a DTSE and an Opteka on my D7000 bodies when I shot them. The Maike and Opteka both had multiple issues while the DTSE worked quite well, the Opteka had 3 buttons that were not functional and drained batteries something terrible, I actually threw it away rather than sell it with the body it had been on. The other two are still working fine for the new owners.

Someone suggested a few inserts and removals might help in seating the connectors. I have done about 15 of each and the LED has not come back on since, so it appears it is a connection problem. Stay tuned there may be more from this station.......

I just bought this same grip for my d7000 the battery life does seem a hair shorter maybe not. But the green light does go on and off as it loosae connection. I really crank down the connection nob and make sure its seated really well. No problems with anything so far really liking it so far. I wanted the Nikon as I am very skeptical of knock off stuff. I took the chance and I am pleased. Do as one guy suggested install several times and crank down the knob and see if that makes the green light go out. My light just comes on when I wiggle the battery pack. It only wiggled if its not seated properly. Give it a try.

I have made a modification to my installation of Meike on D7000. I placed .005" shims at two locations (to balance the installation)which disengage the electrical pins by an equal amount. Seems to be working. Avoid contacting the interface pins, AT ALL COST. I figured it may have been compressing the contacts to the body of the camera. So far everything functions as it is supposed to.

I'm sure you will be pleased. There is no comparison between the Vello and the Meike and it's other brands. They are all identical with different names. PM me when you receive it and let me know what you think. Second thought it will be hard to compare if you have never seen the others but if you get the chance compare it to the Nikon at a local store.

My D7000 with the shims under the camera body only blinks about every 20 minutes now. Maybe I need to go to .010".... Hmmmmmmm....

I did find that if you got a very small O-ring and placed it on the centering post of the grip that it made the grip much more stable, less flex.
