Lightoom 5 Question

Please help if you can.
I recently upgraded from LR3 to 5, and just returned from Maine and was editing some shots. For some reason, the Development right panel changed and I lost the develop panel below the crop panel and above the Tone Curve. There was a panel that included White Balance and sliders for Exposure, Contrast and lights/darks etc. I still have the Tone Curve panel below, but am missing the WB selection tool.
I must have changed something without knowing it. I checked an instruction book I bought in the ebook version, but searching that is a pain in the ...
Trying the LR Help function is worthless too.
Any Ideas????

Click on the Bar that contains the word "Basic" in the panel that is missing and it will come back. Any panel can be closed or opened in this way.

Additionally, if you ALT click on any of the panel headers it will put them in solo mode where only the one you are currently using is open and the others automatically close. Some people like this as it reduces the scrolling one needs to do to get from one panel to the next. ALT clicking again turns this feature off.

Beside the Word Basic there is a triangle. It is pointing left. Click it and see what happens.

Thanks. Yes, the exposure and WB and other sliders were in the "Basic" table. The instruction manual says this should be called "essential". BUT, I don't have the word Basic anywhere.....
I scroll up and down and the Tone Curve panel is just below the crop etc panel. No Basic with little triangle.
Seems bazaar.

I found it. Under Window/Panels, you can turn on the Basic panel.
Thanks for helping.

That is an alternative to the solution that we all suggested but I believe that you simply didn't scroll up enough to show the "Basic" header bar. When you scroll down the develop panels, all of them move up except the histogram and it is possible to have some of the panels hidden under the histogram panel making them seem to have disappeared.

If you click on "Basic" in the Window>Panels drop down menu, the Basic panel would have opened even if it had been hidden by the Histogram Panel.

Thanks, but not my problem as I had no Basic bar left. Somehow I closed the entire panel and had to use the panels drop down menus to get it back. Problem solved.

A shortcut is command-1 on a mac (control on windows I believe) to get to basic panel. All the other panels are similar. If it's the fourth window from the top the. It's command-4 (cntrl-4 on win).

This is a fairly easy situation one can get into. LR5 allows the user to turn off any of the panels if one doesn't use them much. If you control-click (Alt-Click on a Windows box) on a panel's title bar, it'll bring up a contextual menu which allows these settings to be adjusted. Uncheck a panel title and it goes away. As has been mentioned, this same menu allows one to select the "Solo" mode, which automatically collapses a panel when one clicks on another panel. Eliminates a lot of scrolling. LR5 is amazing! I suggest watching the Adobe CreativeLIVE "Lightroom 5 with Jack Davis" course. You can watch it for free and purchase a download if you want to keep it on hand for reference. It'll really open up your eyes - and imagination.
