For me Lightroom. Tried both when I got an iMac and didn't like Aperature and found LR much easier to use and learn with all the tutorials and videos on the web. ;)

You are welcome Erica. Just bear in mind that is my opinion only. ;). Consider coming out of hiding. It is sometimes helpful ( this time wasn't one) when answering an OP's question to have a general idea where they are.

Don't even start with Aperture. LR is an Adobe product and they continue to innovate and explore. Everyone else just copies. LR will grow with you. Do not hesitate. My 2.

Hey Erica,

I have used LR for a couple of years and have nothing but praise for it and the latitude it provides the user. Something that has not previously been mentioned is the fact there are many add-ons LR will accept to even further your enhancement capabilities. Topaz for one comes to mind. Topaz is the company and they have several add-ons one can purchase separately or in a bundle.

I believe if you go to Adobe or LightRoom.com you will find there is a 30 day trial for LR before having to buy it. You might want to try it out before your decision to purchase.

Last thing I want to convey is I have NO experience with Aperture so I wouldn't speak praise or otherwise about it.

Some folks prefer to drive small cars. Others prefer large SUV's. Still others select Pickups. Each type of vehicle has its benefits and each has its short-comings. Each will get you where you want to go. All depends on whether you like the way each sort drives and whether it meets your everyday needs. If you wanna decide what kind of vehicle you prefer, and/or need, research them on the 'net and then go down to the dealer and do some test drives. Same for photo processing software. Read the reviews and the countless tutorials and then go to the manufacturers' websites and download the trial versions and give'em a run. That way you can decide for yourself which is the best package for you.

That said, there are some useful replies here and in most UHH threads. Always helps to know how well a given package works for other folks. Listen to the useful suggestions and ignore the flames posted by folks who will call you an idiot for not doing things exactly as they do.

I have a Mac and I much prefer LR. It has a lot more features and for me is easy to use. Altho' I did like the integration of all the apps and the photos.

I decided to start with Aperture, and I'm still getting to know that program. I haven't used LR, but I may wind up there before all is said and done. I'm not much of a computer guru, and I really liked how easy iPhoto was to sync pictures to my iPad, and iPhone, and Aperture is far better than iPhoto. I think that syncing can probably be set up using LR as a primary photo editor, but I didn't want to have to spend the time figuring it out instead of developing my photography skills and thought I'd give Aperture a chance--also, I'm really hoping that Apple will update it and bring it up more on par with the other stuff that's out there--my impression is that it is not nearly the program LR is for photo editing. I'm still learning and wanted to take things one step at a time. I'm seriously considering a CS6 purchase, though, once I figure out what I can and can't do with Aperture, that is.

Clynro; good reply. I'm in the same boat and went to Aperture because I was using iPhoto and felt they would dovetail. Still learning. Not easy. I like taking photos better then editing.

I'm with you there, but I like the way the photos can really be improved with a little work!
