I am in the Portland, Oregon and asking if there are others in the area who are going to take pictures of this eclipse? Where is a good location to take these these pictures?
I know away from city lights, that is not the answer I am looking for.
Thank you.

I'm interested also. Thanks, Allen (NW Portland)

I plan on shooting it.....if clear skies prevail.

I will only be going down the street to an empty field where I should have a clear view with no obstructions.

I work at a local community observatory and that would be an ideal place, but the observatory is located in a park where they do not open the gates until 0530.

I don't use a traditional lens on my Canon 20D. I have a Williams Optics 4" refractor telescope and a camera adapter that attaches to the camera like a lens and inserts into the scope like an eyepiece.

I have not shot a lunar eclipse with this setup, but I did shoot a total solar eclipse with it in Egypt in 2006.

Below are a few shots showing the size of the moon/sun with this setup. There is no zoom ability on telescopes.

The last pic is a composite I made to commemorate the trip.

I'm not sure if this is the kind of information requested but I just ran across this article and thought it might be useful. It specifically mentions Canon Beach Oregon and the specific times of the eclipse.

It can be found at http://www.digital-photography-school.com/around-the-world-with-a-total-eclipse-of-the-moon

Hope this is helpful.

Awesome image of the sun's corona! I photographed a complete solar eclipse from the roof of my house in Portland-- but I cannot remember the year -- or find the slides.

I am thinking of driving to Crown point-- but that would mean getting up pretty early. I don't have a telescope or connection for my camera. Also my longest focal length is a 105-- but I guess I could try my son's Point and Shoot. It might be crowded up there as well.

Last time we had a nice crowd at the "Women's Forum" turnoff, before you get to Crown Point.

Probably a better location. Was there a nice sunrise?

What great images.! Especially the composite with piramyid. Makes me want to go out and buy that Orion 700mm refractor scope ($2500) but living near Santa Cruz, Ca. will probably be socked in with fog that morning. Thanks for the post-Gene C.

Here in Tigrd, OR the fog is heavy, not lifting until about 10 am well after the eclipse. I have decided I am not going to function on a few hours of sleep. I will not be attempting any photos of this eclipse.

I drove to Crown Point in the Columbia River Gorge. I've been in extreme cold (-25F) and although it was only low 20s with a very gusty wind. I had to hold the top of my tripod the whole time. After about an hour of this, I have to say this is as cold and chilled as I have ever been. Photographically speaking it was a bust for me--"reach limitations" and some screw-ups. It was still worth seeing--just sorry I have nothing to share

I got out to my viewing area and got set up. Then I saw it......clouds on the horizon.

I managed to shoot for awhile, but by 0700 the moon was "socked-in". No shots of the moon set on the horizon. Oh well.

First pic is my location with the clouds.

If you "download" the moon shot you will see the true colors. Not sure why color is muted.

Not very clear here in Santa Cruz, Ca. Taken at full eclipse with 300mm. Guess you could call it a Martin Moon.
