My Fugi X-E1 arrived. I've googled the camera and watched several video about the camera. I was wondering if any hoggers have the camera and what tips and or settings are suggested.
Today I take out the instruction manual and start reading.

Thanks

The X-E1, as you probably know, is junior to the X-p1. But for the most part, its operational aspects are identical. I have been using the X-E1 for about 6 months, and compared to the Canon system and equipment which sits on the shelf, is much lighter to haul around, Image Quality about the same, not for sports or fast action without some creative shooting techniques, and all in all, a fun camera to work with. The lens systems are excellent. If you have the kit 18-55, you have a surprising sharp zoom which, if you like, can be your daily lens of choice. Make certain you have all the recent firmware upgrades for both body and lens: they are easy to do. There is a book on Amazon about the XP1 which will suffice for the XE1. A new one by same author coming out in October. Read the DPR forum re: X-E1 for good info by pros who have learned to get around the system's quirks. Once you learn the basic operational rules, all in the manual, you will really enjoy the camera. Most common photo rules apply; the rest is taking lots of pictures day after day to get comfortable with the system.

XE1 and XPRO are the same thing other than viewfinder differences.

Upgrade your raw converter to the newest version. If you are using Lightroom, be sure its 4.4 or newer. Previous versions of Lightroom cannot handle the RAF files (raw). A lot of commonly used raw converters cannot actually read the RAF file. I cannot stress enough at the very least to use Lightroom 4.4 at minimum. Silkypix provided by Fuji is ok but frustrating most of the time.

This is my daily camera. Ive put about 35k shots on mine already and have produced some amazing prints with it.

Dont bother shooting raw if you dont want to shoot raw. The jpg engine that Fuji made is the best out there right now. I dont trust a D800 to make good jpegs. I trust the XE1 to make good jpegs. This camera, there is never really a need to shoot raw other than when in tricky light situations.

The downside to the camera... Is its slow operation. Its slow in dark situations and its write buffer when shooting raw is slow. This camera is plain terrible at sports/action shoots most of the time.

The upside of this camera is that it forces you to slow down and pay more attention to how you shoot and its hard to argue with how amazing the images this camera makes. I love being asked what I shot a photo with and they expect it to be massive large dslr and i show them this tiny lil thing.

If you have access to other manufacturers lenses, be sure to look into buying BRAND to Fuji X mount adapters. I am currently using Konica, Leica R, Leica M, Nikon and Pentax manual focus lenses. Manual focus is nice on this camera now that we have focus peeking available.

Read the manual and feel free to PM me if you have questions. Its one of my favorite digital cameras and can hold its own against the top end flagship models in terms of IQ.
