I have read here that most of you seem to like smugmugs for website and wondered if anyone ever used Beam, and how they feel it compares.

I've not tried either, but friends of mine post to smugmug. However, the best advice I read was that having your own site is far better than just post photos to any of the photo sites. It tends to place one away from the crowd.

Personally, I have had a web site for some years before any of the photo sharing sites came into existence. Thus, my paltry participation in any, but flickr. I joined that one only because several photography friends are on there and that was our only way to share photos.

I think having one's own web site is the best way to go for the obvious professional appearing approach. Hosting fees are quite affordable and in some cases building a site is easier than learning photoshop.
