If you are interested in bridges, there is an old bridge on rt 40 over the Ohio River. It is the oldest bridge in North America.

Just about any country road in WV at that time of year will look great with the leaves turning and falling.

Probably further than you want to go but Blackwater Falls is pretty. Another is New River Gorge area. Like Rpavich said, any country road you take can offer some beautiful scenery. I grew up there and I'm also going down soon. Love the fall colors in the hills.

We get lots of questions like this. Wouldn't it be sad if posters said that there really wasn't anything interesting to shoot in a certain area? Dullsville, USA.

??? Not even close. There are bridges in Massachusetts and outside of Philly that are still in use, built in the 1650-1700 time frame. The bridge you mention, built in 1819, is only the oldest bridge in West Virginia.

Nevertheless, it's still a nice area to photograph. But if you're looking for old bridges, the north-east is the place to be.

The bridge Bigshot was talking about is probably the suspension bridge that crosses the Ohio River. It is advertised as the oldest suspension bridge in the world. You can actually walk across the bridge and take great pictures of both sides of the river. There is also the Wheeling Island Racetrack.
Wheeling is not that far from the Pittsburgh area. take Route 70 east, then Route 79 north, then 279 north right into Pittsbutrgh.
It will take you an hour also to see the Flight 93 historical site. Take 70 east, pa turnpike, exit 110

You might want to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's home in Western PA and famous architectural house "Falling Water". Just Google it and you should find the info you need to go there. It may be an hour or so from Pittsburgh. Also, interesting in Pittsburgh is the Incline, which I believe goes up the mountain side of Mt. Washington. Great view of the city and rivers. Any guide info to Pittsburgh will give details. And, watch out for the crazy drivers (they are all Steelers fan, but that is no excuse)!

I'll second Blackwater Falls-visited there as a child and again in college. Spectacular scenery. WV is beautiful in the fall.

I'll be there Saturday Oct. 5th. I like taking shots of the Greyhound races. Have taken hundreds over the last couple of years, and have a few keepers. They are fast and hard to catch but I'll keep shooting.
I live about 70 miles east and the trees haven't started to change yet. It seems the fall changes can be very localized and this years weather has been very different, dry spring and a wet summer. So that will make a difference in the amount of color of the trees.
Enjoy your trip. Gary

It remains the oldest vehicular suspension bridge in the United States still in use and is listed as both a National Historic Landmark and Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
