Some great action shots, the only thing I might suggest is try increasing your shutter speed.

Thanks. I think I did increase it later on in the game.

What lens did you use?
I was just at a presentation at my local camera club, this guy had Canon 70-200 f/2.8 if my memory serves. he said to shoot wide open and shutter at 1/1000 most times.

I used my 55-250 Canon. I have the 70-200 f2.8, but I can't hand hold it and I thought a tripod would be a hindrance in shooting fast action. I usually shoot at 1/1000 but that's for bifs. I think I eventually shot at 1/800. However, the next game I think I'll take the tripod and the 70-200. It's just bulky and heavy to keep moving around the field, never mind follow the action. Never know till I try, however.

Good luck, maybe a monopod would work better for you?

When using my 70-200 I always use a monopod for football unless I can't get on the field then I use a tripod with a gimble from the bleachers. Two long legs tucked tight on either side of my feet and the third leg shortened to perch on the seat in front of me- it works. ;)

Do NOT use a tripod if shooting from the sidelines - you will be a hazard. Monopods are far more useful and 10X safer.

Don't be afraid of bumping up your ISO.
This isn't a wedding or portrait session. A little noise won't kill the shot.
And make sure you're on AF Servo, single focus point.

I have a hard time keeping a monopod still! Need more practice using it, but I don't really like it.

Thanks. Question: Why did you suggest bumping up the ISO? It was early afternoon on a sunny day. Did you suggest it because it would increase the shutter speed? I was on AI Servo and I think expanded single focus point.
