Printing on canvas

Hi all, I am trying my hand at printing my digital photos on artist canvas. I am using Fredrick's Archival Canvas sheets, 8 1/2x11. The photos come out fine. The problem I am having is in the type of medium to give them UV protection. I have tried Golden Polymer Gloss Medium and Golden Polymer UV Gloss Varnish. Both of these leave a "cracked" finish. I have also tried Mod Podge which makes the colors bleed and gives the look of a painting. This is more acceptable, but I would like to achieve a crisper finish. Any suggestions?

I have used PremierArt print shield on canvas and one can't even tell it is there.

You might check teh Wilhelm research group for more specific info.

Check out the urethanes used for boat decks. If too thick, then then down, tho UV penetration will depend on thickness. Do, call and talk to tech service of major paint manufacturers. Also, I believe there is an additive material available.

I use PremierArt ECO put on with a roller. It is aqueous so better for the environment. Two coats of clear then a coat of clear or matte for the final look. It doesn't crack during stretching and is not really visible. InkJetArt.com has some very good videos on how to apply it.

Breathing Color company, found on the web, has several brush, spray, or roll-on products for UV protection as well as matte or gloss finish. They also have gallery wrap systems that really work well and are VERY easy to use... great results.

Thanks Rip. How are things in Estes Park these days? I grew up in Lakewood and my daughter lives in Boulder.

Oh, it’s ok up here. I get along ok. Tourist towns do have their
drawbacks….. but the Elk don’t mind, they just wander about and do what they want to.

Good to hear. I am familiar with tourist towns (Durango for 42 years). I saw an e-mail with photos of the elk in Estes. Pretty amazing!
