The south side of Brooklyn and Queens was all swamp. There is even a national park in Queens, but you didn't hear it from me.
Would that be SHU Swamp in Brookville? Mill road?
Gorgeous image.
Thank you all for your comments
Wish I could answer your question Bruce but I just dont know. I do know it is in the outskirts of Albany, my son lives there and took me out for a ride.

Yes and there is a National wet land park there. Duck from the planes taking off from the airport! Theres a photo-op jets and water fowl. Look at a map, the south of Queens is full of small islands. It's all a marsh/wet land.
Well I'll be damned didn't know that. I have only been to Queens once and that was in 1958, a fellow Marine I served with in Japan had his home there. We got a 96 hour pass from Cherry Point NC and drove up
I lived in an apartment complex that was built on the marsh. N.Y state gets a lot of rain / snow there's a lot of stuff people don't know about or see, like most states. Always get a hold of a local or someone who grew up there. There's a fort on Staten Island %95 of New Yorkers don't know about even though they pass it daily because it's covered by trees.
I have had so many things shown to me about NY, Upstate NY is beautiful indeed. My take on NY before was NYC. That is too much for me, was there in 1958 and enjoyed it but now too much hustle and bustle too many people too fast a pace of life. But upstate I love upstate NY Lake Placid, all around those areas Lake Sacandaga so beautiful
Yep not to mention niagra falls is in NY.
I grew up on LI, and when I was youg NY was suburban LI and "THE CITY". After doing a couple hitches in the army and seeing the south and Alaska, I travelled NY much more. NY is vastly different from the Islands ( Staten, Manhatten and Long) To Champlain, Adirondacks, Fingerlakes. NY haq so very much to offer besides the Big City.
Take time and experience the greatness of gthe Empirfe state.
Oh and visit Watkins Glen, a wonderful venue for photography.
Hubby and I did a motorcycle tour this year from home in PA, west on Route 6 toward the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon..that was knew to me...north To Niagra, Canada side, and back east through Ithaca, NY and Hunter, NY. What I noticed most of all on this ride is the abundance of open space, farms, grapes and wine country, and high and low geography. Unfortunately we did pass through some devastation as a result of IRENE! You can see some of it by looking at PENNSYLTUCKY on the blog link below. NY is indeed a magnificent and varied state. Heading into "THE CITY" today. No camera though calling for drenching rains.

If your going to NY city go to the chrysler building check out the gargolies on the out side and each elevator was hand made by a tradesman and each 1 is different! if you want any tips I grew up in NY city theres plenty to do indoors in NY
I work on environmental issues. As we say at work: when you are in the office it is a wetland, but when you are walking around in the field it's a f*****g swamp!
In my travels about the USA, I find the middle age and especially the younger group do not ( most of the time ) have a clue about their surroundings. Gotta find old mom and pop cafes or motels to get a feel for what you do not want to miss seeing when in the area.
