Groovy... I used a teal and a magenta sharpie around the edges of a ripped sandwich bag to photograph this mini replica of my son's dream vehicle since he was 8 years old.

An interview with sleepydrdr

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I'm afraid it's not a very interesting interview. I've been taking pictures just a few months, since I gave this camera to my husband (ggttc) for Christmas and he got me to try it.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No training, most of my pics are taken in my yard. I like to take pictures of nature.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I leaned over the pasture fence and took several shots of our horses. I liked this one because of the clearness of the eyelashes and the color framing the white hair.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Canon SX50; I rolled little strips of pink and green gauze in the edges of the sandwich bag hole

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
No

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I work full time

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Just my posts

An interview with lizzy5553

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
OMG! This is so exciting! It's so interesting how earlier today I was thinking about this particular photograph of me _ I must've been about 3 years old or so - and how I remember the excitement of going to the studio with my mother and my beautiful dress on to have my picture taken - yes, I still have the photograph - It seems as if I understood the importance of making memories even at such a young age.
I started getting really serious about photography about 5 years ago when my youngest son Dylan started playing music and doing live shows with The School of Rock and so, over time I became their "official" photographer as I take as many pictures of the rest of the kids as I do my own.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Regretfully, I haven't had any formal training but I am planning on doing so. After I took a community class about 18 years ago, I purchased the NY Institute of Photography course by mail but never did anything with it. Then, while Dylan was going to SoR, I would go to Barnes and Noble and read EVERYTHING I could get my hands on about photography for those 3 hours 3 times a week - minimum- for the 4 years Dylan went to the school - especially about concert photography-. I like to say that's my training right there - I spent 4 years educating myself and learning all that I could while my son was learning to play music -. I also bought a lot of books but the whole concept was so challenging to me that I almost gave up trying to understand it but my family was very supportive and encouraged me not to give up and that I would "eventually get it". I decided I must continue studying and trying to make it "make sense to me". Just this past Memorial Day Weekend is when everything clicked and I was able to really comprehend the concept of the "holy trinity".
Along with playing the drums, which I started doing 3 years ago, photography has been the hardest thing I've ever tackled but I love it so, so much!
I mainly do concert photography for the reasons stated above.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
As soon as I saw the theme of the challenge I visualized "dreamy" and "nostalgic" in my head. I first tried it with Dylan's guitar and bass but I wasn't feeling it and then it hit me! I knew right away what I wanted to do and so, I grabbed the VW from the top of his dresser, put it on top of a sheep skin rug with a pocket knife under it to give the front of the bus some height so the plate wouldn't be covered by the fleece. I ripped the bottom of a plastic sandwich bag and used 2 sharpies, one magenta and one teal. I took about 20 shots from different angles - mind you, these were "practice shots" as I had in mind using a tripod and different colors - orange and pink were the ones I had in mind.
This particular shot must've been the 15th or so and perhaps the first one straight on. I was so excited seeing the results! Then my husband and one of his workers came home and I showed them the just uploaded on to my computer pictures. They both thought it was a real VW bus and told me it was an amazing shot and where did I see it and then I showed them the toy. They were extremely impressed. And so, I decided to post it as a "in the meantime and until I get my final shot". I still continued to take more pictures every day trying to "capture" a better light but the quality was never there.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used the Nikon D7100 with my just fixed Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 lens. Does the above explanation count as the setup? Aside from that, I didn't do anything else.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Yes! I see the photograph is a little askew and, had I used a tripod and manipulated the bag a little more, I could've made the center of the image sharper. But this was a "practice shot" that wasn't intended to be the one to be entered. Alas, it't the one that did it :-}

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I probably would spend more time drumming or sewing, but I just cannot imagine not doing it. Photography is so important to me that when my mother passed 13 years ago, I told my brother all I wanted was all the photographs she had - she also loved the medium - And so, I had to sign a paper giving him all of her material things.
I just cannot see myself not taking pictures. I would lose the essence of me. Everybody who knows me, knows that I go EVERYWHERE with my camera. Dylan comes to my room to say goodnight and, more often than not, he takes my eyeglasses off of my face, a book on photography, my phone - which I always have on the UHHF - and my camera from my hands... I must tell you that it's been such a blessing finding this site! Almost any question I have, I can find the answer here.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
Most certainly

An interview with samml9993

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
My mom gave me a used Kodak box camera when I was 9 years old. That opened a new world for me.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training. I enjoy taking pics of animals and airplanes.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Your contest.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Nikon P90 ( I love this camera) normal setting but zoomed in from about 30 feet.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Maybe more color on the bag I used.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Genealogy is my other love.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I do not have a blog. I need one because I have tons of pictures I have taken for the past 57 years
