Should they be allowed...

Hello again, just like a bad penny.... well you know the rest..

I was reading an article a while ago... won't bother you with where I read it because it would immediately cause at least half of you to scream "right wing nutjobs" or "Left wing libtards" so just consider the question..

Should outside (ie non residents) be allowed to campaign or try to influence a vote by any means such as "Robo Calls", "Purchasing ads" UNLESS they are residents of the state.

If so...... why
If not..... why

Thanks..

Mike

p.s. I don't consider it a "First Amendment Right"

My answer would be no. Outside non-citizens trying to influence votes for their gains would be wrong in my view. Now, if you are talking about outside phone callers from India, that is no different than calling a computer help desk and hearing a strange accent. That would be just a job.

If you're talking about from out of state I'd say yes as the amount of trade and economic interdependence can impact people from states that trade with one another. If you're talking about other countries (not US citizens) I'd say no.

Mayor "I know what's good for you" Bloomberg gave Robin Kelly 2 million cash to run her campaign for Illinois state rep. I'm sorry, yes he is a U.S. citizen but it had nothing to do with just political parties. It has to do with getting someone with his ideals into office to influence politics in our state.
So donating 2 MILLION dollars is going to let him stretch his tentacles
into Illinois when he asks for a payback on his investment.
My answer is no,it shouldn't be allowed.

Good luck getting it made illegal. The people having it done are our 'illustrious' representatives that we voted into office. I look at my phone and if it is an 800 # or an unknown number, unknown name, I don't answer it. I can deal with with six or so rings until they hang up. I suppose I could get rid of the phone, but land line phones are good for some things-one being, they save the battery on my CP! And another great thing is that in my neck of the woods, the county police call if there is trouble in the community, such as wildfires, escaped criminals, etc. It's really a great thing to have.

The Supreme court in it's "Citizen's United" decision allowed those special interests with the $$$ to try to influence the voters anywhere they wish. It was one of the worst decisions any court had ever made.
