Searched UHH for comments on 8, not too many recent ones. I have to get a new computer soon (PC) and have heard so many horror stories about Windows 8, especially in the realm of post processing. Between that and the daunting task of moving all my photos to a new computer, can anyone give me any encouragement?
I have to keep in mind that I have a very limited income

Windows 8 actually works really well, once you modify it to get full functionality back.
Classic Shell makes this happen quite well, and its free and doesn't clutter anything up with ads:

The question was about touch screen & Win 8.
There were other comments that could be helpful for you.
I might add, you should consider a backup drive to store your images in addition to your main computer.

You might be further ahead to research Windows 8 at PC oriented sites such as:
http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/software/operating-systems/windows-8-1093002/review
Many don’t like the new GUI (I don’t) but a Windows update, 8.1, is due out in October and it will allow you to opt for a more familiar GUI similar to Win 7.
Check out: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
and download Upgrade Assistant which will evaluate your current program versions (Photo Shop, etc.) for suitability for running under Win 8 and then
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-8/transfer-files-settings-another-pc which will explain both the limitations and How-To for transferring existing programs and (photo) files from the old PC directly to the new.

Does anyone else have problems with the back button not working?
Other than that I have not had any problems, seems it does take a bit of getting used to though.

I have, using the desktop window, Internet Explorer and on UHH site only. When it "hangs up". I check the history of sites and I have visited and the history shows a whole string of visits on particular sites. One of them is googleleads or something like that and there is another site. Been happening more recently.
I've started using Firefox for UHH and have not had a problem with UHH, sense.....Not yet.....

I just bought a new Win 8 desktop, but do not use touch screen..........it looks different, but you have to keep moving ahead. It's a lot faster for post processing (using Lightroom).............if you decide to avoid Win 8, go to Win 7, not XP.................XP is getting old...

I switched from Windows XP to Windows 8 at the beginning of this year. I think the biggest issue that people have trouble with on Windows 8 is it's "Different". If you let yourself get used to the "Metro" or "Tile" screen you can set it up to be quite functionally useful. You can enter IE from either the start screen or desktop screen. I do not like starting from the start (metro) screen, but that may be a set-up issue. I use Photoshop CS6 and some Lightroom 4 and really have no issues other than my lack of knowledge of the software, and that would be the same on a Windows 8 or XP machine.

Bottom line, if you go in with the attitude that change is inherently bad, they never should have changed anything and you'll never figure this new crap out, then you're going to hate Windows 8. If you go in with an open mind and attempt to learn the differences you will find that the experience is nowhere near as daunting or horrific as it has been made out to be.

I have been using windows 8 since it came out and 8.1 will be out soon. I really like windows 7 and it is a bit of a change to windows 8, however, I have had very little trouble using Lightroom5, PSE11 and other programs with windows 8.

I do all of my post-processing on a Windows 8 computer. I use Lightroom 5, Adobe photoshop elements 11, OnOne software as well as nik software. I also have Paint shop pro x5.
I have had no problems with any of these programs.
Windows 8 does have a small learning curve. But most problems have to do with trying to run outdated software.

Thanks to all for the positive replies. If something new is all that the fuss is about than I can't wait to dive into 8. Most everything I have done of any consequence in life has been something new. Lightroom and Elements were all new and scary at first and are now like old friends. Should be after struggling with them for a long time. Will never know all but plenty not to use them effectively Now I can almost hardly wait for my turn to dig into Windows 8.
Thanks gang
