Own an old film Nikromat and want to know if my Nikromat lenses will work with the D5100.

All "F" mount Nikkor lenses will mount to a Nikon dSLR.

That said, they may, or may not meter properly and you might have to run flash in manual mode. Go to the Nikon web site and search for lens compatibility.

Well, went to 2 local camera stores and both said I could attach them, but would only be able to set shutter speed.
I also emailed Nikon and below is their answer:

Dear Mr. Reichbach:

If your lenses are as old as the Nikkormat camera, they can not be used on any of the Nikon SLR digital cameras unless they are modified. However, Nikon has not modified older lenses for many years due to the lack of parts.
