On the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland, the Giant's Causeway is made up of columnar basalt. The columns are caused by erosion along cracks that formed perpendicular to the surface of the lava flow as it cooled. The same phenomenon can be seen in the USA at Devil's Tower National Monument in Wyoming and Devil's Postpile National Monument in California.

Hughes Mountain in Missouri has a similar polygonal columns... just doesn't have that coast line (or Guinness :^)
