Number of members vs those still here.....

I occasionally see reference by some posters to the member count of UHH.

Right now, it's a bit over 36,000.

I always look at the number of members logged in, and have never seen over 400 members on line. Today, at this point in time 251 members are logged in.

How relevent is this question.... hmmmm... not! But am I to gather from this that some 30,000 people, or more, took the time to register, and then took a pass on the site.

I wonder what the number would be if UHH closed all the memberships that had not posted in a years time?

I think it's the same on all sites unless there's an option to cancel your membership. Take Facebook. If they only published the number of active memberships, advertising revenue would plummet.

Also please realize that it is a big world.

Right now it is 1:45pm 9th of Sep USA East Coast (Retirees, house wives etc)
In California it is 10:45am Pacific time
In Hawaii it is 7:45am
In Japan it is 2:45am on the 10th of Sep
In Vietnam it is 12:45am on the 10th of Sep
In India it is 11:15pm on the 9th of Sep

**Bombay, and India generally, isn't the only place chronometrically out of step with the rest of the world. Lots of countries, particularly in Asia, are a half-hour out of sync, including Burma, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.

Some have even stranger quirks. If my handy time-zone map here is to be believed--I am a little dubious about some of it--Nepal is 40 minutes off the mark. Saudi Arabia, ever the trailblazer, has some bizarre system in which clocks are supposedly reset to midnight every day at sunset. Keeping one's watch properly attuned aboard the Riyadh-Rangoon express must be an exhausting experience.

In Greece it is 8:45pm on the 9th of Sep EEST
In Paris France it is 7:45pm on the 9th of Sep
In Greenland it is 5:45pm on the 9th of Sep

That might explain why people showing as logged in might be different at different times of day.

Some will sign up, post a question, get their answer and are gone.

Once they stumble upon
the General Chit-Chat (non-photography talk) forum they head for the hills!

I think F16 Club bears some responsibility.

Could also be that some just read the digest and are satisfied to not post.

speaking of...where's he been lately?

Also, I never log off whether I'm at the computer or not...so the 251 online isn't an exact number who are really on active at any given moment.
