Blaming a gun for murder is like blaming a rope for lynching (author unknown)
One day enough intelligent people in America will wonder why all the most dangerous cities on earth (google 50 most dangerous cities on Earth and pick a result) don't have any real gun control. Then they will find of the 100 safest cities in the World, nearly all do have good tight effective gun control. Definitions of danger are closely linked to homicide rate.
You can trot out all your little homilies for as long as you like, it does not change the demonstrable statistics that murder and violence in society are linked very closely to lack of gun control. I am not blaming guns, I am blaming people for being irresponsible with guns.
It can also be shown that every single Western democracy where gun control has been in place for ten years or more has become considerably safer in terms of homicides. Again, google any one you like and follow the trend.
The added benefit in each of these countries, over and above dramatic falls in homicide rates, are the sharp falls in gun related deaths. These include suicides and firearms accidents.
Which do you prefer, a dangerous country where you need a gun to defend yourself or a safe country where you don't.
Those cartoons are better than most political speeches, and they address more than just gun control.

Regarding SkellumO's post:
I'd rather trust an armed citizenry than an armed totalitarian government and a disarmed citizenry.
As Thomas Jefferson said:
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

Skellum....I'll bet that you'll find a few more differences between those cities. Gun control laws will not be the only difference.

Thomas Jefferson was a great man in his time. Many of his beliefs however, do not translate well into the modern world. As you well know, he kept slaves and he believed women should be kept to the hearth amongst other arcane beliefs.
He was a man of his time and had no concept of how the world would evolve. Democracy was in its infancy. In a modern democracy you do not need weapons for the government to fear you. The second amendment is archaic with the result it costs thousands of American lives every year.
Modern democracies do not turn into tyrannies because they have gun control. It has never happened and is never likely to.

I agree. You should blame the person with a gun. So the fewer people with guns the better.

I prefer the free country that allows me to decide either way.

In the US, look who runs these cities, look at the perpetual poverty, lack of good education, trillions of $$$$ wasted.
BUT they keep guns out of the hands of people who would like to protect themselves, as a result, the scum run the cities.
