I bank with National Australia myself. I just rang them & unfortunately they have no money left for my refund. To get serious for a moment, most similar scams that we get over here involve a bank acct/link in some African country. Unfortunately, enough people, mainly the frail & elderly, fall for these scams to make it worth their while. I would love to have 5 minutes alone with one of them.

We get them from all over the world, but this is the first time from Australia for me anyway. Most of the time they start out with My love, or some other nonsense line. Even my doesn't use a line like that, she just takes my wallet. LOL

Just have to say...last year on our American trip, someone got my husband's credit card details and before we realized, they booked up $2100. All in New York area and we didn't go anywhere near New York. They used it at places like Dunkin Donuts, Macy's, beauty salons, Mc'Donalds. When we got home we had no problem with the ANZ bank refunding our money, just took a few weeks. Scary.

These are a laugh aren't they but unfortunately they do catch out some people who fall for the scams. Sadly it's gonna be the old, frail or folk of low intelligence who fall for them.
Happily there's something that you can do about it, have a look here

It's a forum set up to scam and annoy the scammers :) :)
The theory is that getting back to them and pretending to believe their crazy announcements will waste their time and perhaps make them give up. Maybe it won't work but it's a lot of fun

I get this kind of crap regularly, usually from Nigeria. I usually forward them on to the US Govt anti-phishing unit and scams international and if companies like Western Union, Visa, DHL, UPS, USPS, Amex are mentioned I also forward it to their spoof addresses. Those from England I forward the UK Fraud unit of Scotland Yard.

I sent back a return email saying "I have forwarded your email to the Australian Federal Police, they should be contacting you as soon as possible" Have never had a second try.
