Is it rude to put your logo or name in your pictures you post here? I think even if you are an armature or a professional photographer one should mark his photo for copy rights, specially after I heard a contest picture won and it was stolen from someone else. Anyone that has a Photoshop program could take this picture add some colors or crop it and make money out of it.
Example 1
The scary thing is that with content aware in PS they may not have to crop.

Carr, I don't think it's rude, since it's your right to watermark if you so choose.
That said, if you don't see a future as a pro, it's probably more vanity than anything else.
If you are so overwhelmed with paranoia, better to just post small files with even smaller print instructions. I guess it could be stolen and sold as a postcard.
A watermark claims you as the maker, but if the foto is not registered as a copyrighted item, does it even help? Few value their work enough to go the extra step to get real protection.
So Carr, watermark away. But you've got my word, I won't take one of yours, if you don't take one of mine!! SS
No. I don't think it's rude. There are many people doing just what you said. I was a professional photographer for 12 yrs and I always protected my work.
If you have photo shop, you can also remove a logo
I can't do that, I mean to take one of your photos even if they are 100% perfect. I know I will never be perfect, but I feel no satisfaction in something I didn't do and I can live with others having master the art of photography as i am not a photographer but an photography enthusiast, but one never knows which way things will turn to. I have to respect everyone's knowledge about photography, I have to develop mines, thank you for your comments, very well appreciated.

If they they are your images, meaning you either took them yourself or otherwise own them through some other means, why not?
Thanks everyone for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I might be a little old, but I am really a newbie on this.

but
the data of that logo is embeded in the photo data. even after it is removed.
if a contest request no logo thats one thing they can disqualify it. if they don't you have a legal argument.
Thanks to all of you for your feedback, I also asked where do I go for Copy Rights and I think is my best bet. Again thank you all for your answers.

I don't consider it rude. In fact on some of mine I have posted the watermark is way out in the open. (But mainly because I had done that for when I posted it to facebook and didn't want to remark and re-size the pic to post here as well.)
It's your photo and you should post it however it makes you feel comfortable to post it.
Thank you Tea8, every day that goes by I like this forum more and more.
The waters can get a little muddy in this area and there are many different jurisdictions worldwide but, I believe that you have personal copyright for every photo you have ever taken, even if you do not put your copyright logo on it, or tag it in anyway - unless you list the image in a "free for all public domain".
That photo will be tagged with your data and if you have the original file and supporting images (not necessary but helpful) from the same shoot.
Every photo will record your camera body serial number and lens that the pic is taken with. Plus other info. You can enter a copywrite identifier and message in your cameras menu (EXIF data etc) to automatically attach to every photo you take.
Most images stolen and edited can be reverse engineered to prove origin of the image.
Having said that, most times it is not worth the hassle to track down stolen images. But it sure does feel good to see a serial thief caught out. There was a case on UHH not too long ago where someone stole images from here as well as other places and posted them back here as his own within hours of the original poster uploading them.
Best case scenario is if one of yours does get stolen and wins a big prize and you find out. Then you can end up with the kudos and the money and havent had to do any of the work!!
Thanks Lighthouse , you are definitely an Encyclopedia, I really appreciate it.
