Thanks for the comments. The trip was in 2003 and lasted about two weeks. The goal was Batopilas, a small town at the bottom of one of the canyons to see a church there. I rode on the top of the bus that took us to Batopilas from the train.
Some shots on a trip to the Copper Canyon in Mexico
Great pictures. I went down to the Urique river in 1967 with a group of people on kayaks (supposedly never done before). We took some documentary film of the canyon and of the Tarahumara Indians on a long race lasting several days. They are famous as long-distance runners. At the time the area practically saw no tourists, but I understand it is now a tourist attraction. In Mexico the canyon is known as Barranca del Cobre. Your picture of the canyon from above captured the beauty of the area.
Yes there is a train. It leaves Chihuahua and goes to El Fuerte. It passes through many tunnels and over many trestles. I think it's about a 14 hour trip. You can get off and back on. Sorry these photos are so small.
