The T3i is an excellent consumer level DSLR. Do you have other EOS lenses that you can use with it? I say this because if you are starting out COMPLETELY fresh in the DSLR world, you should examine other alternatives - Nikon,Sony,Olympus, Pentax, etc. Select a budget and a minimum feature set, and then go from there.

Yes, I also have an Olympus E500 camera and several lens for it! I am not just starting out, I just wanted another camera to take out with me when going out and about. BUT the only other camera I have owned is the olympus, so I know little about other brands of cameras.
Thank you for your reply!!

Just wondering why you want another camera in the first place ! You have an Olympus....what DOESN'T it do for you ? Most DSLR's operate about the same, with similar settings and capabilities !

I just want a newer model camera. There is nothing that my olympus doesn't do for me and nothing wrong with it, Other than my light meter is a little off. I would like to have one to take along with me when I go out for a drive, or when I am on my way somewhere and I see something I may want to capture!! Alot of people have more than one camera!

Hi Blueeyes I have had a Canon TSi for 2 years and dearly love it. Before that, it was an Olympus point and shoot, also a great camera. I still use the Olympus for quick shoots where I don't want to carry all that gear around and the Canon for everything else. Go for it you won't be sorry.

I just got one, and Best Buy has a great offer now, online, and they will price match it in the store, comes with bag, 2 lenses, 8 gigs memory card, battery charger, battery ...great value under 1,000. The camera is user friendly and so far I really like it. The lenses are great and the pictures excellent at 18 MP. Hope that gives you some good info and helps. :D

I try to take my T2i with me whenever I go out in the car, but I have 3 separate lenses for it, so it's more then just carrying it into the car. I'm not sure why you can't take the Olympus with you.

I am not quite getting the motivation. though I have a ton of cameras here. \I can't pass up a bargain and they come into the Auction house. I rationalize that I will sell them and can get more from a camera store. But the truth is , I am a pack rat. Unless you have something specific in mind, you seems to be duplicating the capabilities you already have.

Lenses for the Canons are expensive, and not stableized.
Canon cameras are not stableized like some of the others.
As a pure carry around a "good" P&S will do.

I bought the Canon T3i this past Spring. I take it everywhere with the 18-135 kit lens and it works beautifully for me. I mostly take landscape Photos but have taken some portrait shots also. I have 3 point and shoot cameras, an Olympus,a Nikon and the Canon G7 and use them all depending where I'm going. You won't go wrong with the T3i. No such thing as too many cameras!!!

If you are just wanting a camera to carry with you and not have to take a big camera and all the lenses have you thought about the Canon G12 or the equivalent Nikon? they are compact and offer great features and have a wide range zoom. just saying

.
If your camera works for you, I would rather have another useful and updated lense. Otherwise,I'd suggest the D7,000.
My wife would spring $1,000 for a camera but not $1,000 for a lense.
