I just started taking photos with a DSLR last year, and have been trying to get better photos. I want to take a photography course for DSLR's, but it has to be very cheap or preferably FREE. I have the Canon T3i with the older non-Macro Sigma 18-250mm. I take photos of landscape, wildlife, flowers, and anything that catches my eye. I have been trying to find a how to that takes using the camera one step at a time. I'm more hands on, than book learning. Hope you like my photos.

Welcome. Based on your goals, you may find a lot of what you're looking for right here. There's a section to ask questions about your equipment. There's another section for posting pictures where you can study the work of others as well as post pictures of your own

My goal when I retired three years ago was similar to yours - learn how to take better pictures. I did a lot of reading but found it boring. I joined this forum recently and have already learned a lot. Most importantly, it has motivated me to take more pictures and share them here with friends.

Your best bet is to begin by putting your camera on automatic and just start taking pictures. Photograph people and places you like and just have fun. Don't hesitate to ask questions and submit pictures right from the start. There are a lot of nice people here who will offer you encouragement and support.

Good to have you as an inmate in the madhouse daninr8, I like your intro set and it looks like your work is going to be interesting. As for learning, remember your camera is only an extension of your imagination.

Welcome to the Hog. Focusing on a bird in flight is VERY hard.
You did a great job in my opinion.

Welcome. Your third cropped picture is very good. You might want to get a couple of books by Bryan Peterson. He writes very well, and is easy to understand. Then practice, practice, practice. If you have a problem with a photo, post it on the photo analysis part of the forum and ask for help....you will get all the help you will ever need.
