My friend wants to know what would be the best Lens to use taking pictures of Pens he sales. Usually one pen at a time. Very close shots and whats the difference from say a 28mm to a Macro Lens.
My own approach to posting on eBay and such is to dispense with the DSLR since there's no advantage to greater resolution/larger files, and use a good small sensor camera. I use a Fuji S6000 (which can be picked up used for a song) which takes spectacular photos and is really good for close-in work using macro or super macro mode. A small sensor camera has not only the advantage of smaller file sizes, but also, because of the sensor size, has inherently greater DOF which really makes life easier for this purpose.

There is no best lens. Who is the photographer, you or the person that sells pens. If you are a photographer, tell him how do it. There is more to it that a specific lens, and a 28mm should even be considered.
