I've got an Epson Artisan 810, and people rave about the prints it makes.

Yes. Go Epson. I have an old (7-8 years) Epson 2200. I could replace it but there is no need. It's a work horse. It never breaks down and the prints are super. The local photo store guy is a lifelong Canon fan but prefers the Epson brand for his printing. But I think the Canon and Epson photo paper are equaling good and quite interchangable with an Epson printer.

I've been using an Epson Artisan 725 for a while. The prints are very sharp with vibrant color saturation. I would definitely recommend this one.

I have a Canon 9500 Mark II (pigment ink) and I love it.
Max paper size is 13X19 and it has 10 inks - photo magenta, photo black, mat black, photo cyan, grey, magenta, yellow, cyan, green and red. My monitor is calibrated and I use the individual paper specs when printing. The color is spot on. I use several kinds of paper from Canon, Moab, Red River, Canson etc and, as long as I use the correct paper profile, my results are outstanding. The printer is listed at about $800 but I got it for $300 - brand new. (Canon offers great deals on printers when people buy cameras and they don't always want them.) The ink consumption is very good with the possible exception of the grey cartridge which seems to always run out first. For a 10 cartridge replacement at B&H it's about $118.00 with shipping included. This is not bad - about 11.80 per cartridge for pigment ink.
Be aware that Canon has just offered a 12 ink printer that is supposed to be even more amazing but the cost is around $2000 - arghhh!
