First let me say, I do not do HDR myself. With that said, I really like the composition, but the HDR process makes it look to much like a painting for me.

The lighting is good - I like a little more contrast. I think the lack of contrast is what makes it look like a painting.

Exactly what I was trying to avoid to some extent.
I have had various opinions and yours is not the first one to mention the painting similarity.
I need to practice more, it's not the effect I was looking for either.
Thanks for the feedback

Thanks sb.
Any suggestions on how to improve contrast?

I think just playing with the Photomatix settings. I am just beginning to explore this software and the whole HDR idea. It looks like it has great potential! Best wishes.

Not an expert but on my screen I'm seeing a lot of blue. Did you do a meter first and then set your camera from that reading.Maybe the setting was on the dark side.

With all respect to you, and for your well-composed photo, why do you and the apparent majority of photographers sending their HDR work to this site ignore the "before" of "before and after?" I cannot see how you can expect UHH'ers to evaluate your work "before and after" if you do not send us the "before." I would really appreciate some insight into this omission, from you or others who share or oppose my concerns.

Napsview, I would like to suggest researching HDR on the Internet. There are different opinions on what the results of an HDR processed photo should look like. They will range from natural, in which details of been enhanced, too fantastic or bizarre.
I like the composition, but perhaps it should have included a little more area at the top, and a little less at the bottom. Much of the details in the bridge are blown out, which detracts from the photo. This would be a good picture to take back to Photomatix and try to enhance this area of the photograph.

I like the image; I wish that my first HDR was as good as yours. The blue cast contributes to the apparent lack of contrast. The person on the bridge provides a nice sense of scale to the image. I like the textures in the rocky foreground and water surfaces. Showing more surface texture in the upper bridge structure would provide an improved tone balance.
