Has anyone ever used Snapfish or Shutterfly for ordering prints? If so, what are your thoughts concerning quality compared to a professional service from a camera store?

I have used Shutterfly, as well as Blurb and Mpix. I'm happy with Shutterfly overall, but I will say that Blurb's quality is amazing in the two books that I've ordered from them. There is a learning curve to using Blurb and they are about twice as expensive. Mpix gives you a choice of papers and their color quality is terrific. Shutterfly is a great company and I continue to be happy with their products, as well.

I used Shutterfly on two occasions. Earlier in the Summer, I sent them two orders: one with three files for 8x10 prints and another with two files for 8x10 and 16x20 prints. The image qualities on the files were quite good (I selected the glossay). However, you need to pay attention to the "custom" settings so your prints are aligned properly. The return packaging was fine; the 16x20 was delivered in a carton containing the print rolled in a protective plastic tube. Delivery was not speedy (8-10 business days). The cost was competitive with other sites. The next time around, I may try MPX.

I loved my prints from Mpix. My prints from Shutterfly were "ok" if you are looking to do a photo book I highly recommend mypublisher.com.

I just received an order from Snapfish and I was disappointed to the point that I will not order from them again. I just went back and reviewed the order to check on the cropping in that in one shot the print I received cut off the top of the bird's head, but did not do so in the cropped depiction of how it would be printed. Also, I was totally unimpressed with the coloration. I had a couple of shots in which whatever medium you look at them, camera, computer, electronic frame, etc., the eyes of the black crested heron are bright red. Their results showed the eyes to be very dull and point of the picture was capturing the amazing eyes. Bottom line - they have seen my business for the last time. I had a good result with a photo book that I ordered form Mixbook however.

I have used Shutterfly for two or three years now and am very happy with them. In my work as a graphic artist and art director, I used custom color houses and photo developers, so I know what to look for in prints, and the first time I tried them, I was so surprised at the quality I have used them ever since. I like the quality of the paper, and especially that they give you a "final look" at the actual crop before you hit the send key, with the chance to adjust it. The prints are reasonably priced and are mailed well packaged and protected. I also trusted them with a 200-page custom photo book. You can have them automate the layout or choose every aspect of the design yourself. The interface was a little cumbersome and took some getting used to, but since I had no deadline, it was fun. It turned out to be an expensive project, but I was completely satisfied with the results. Oh, and it's a great place to organize favorite photos and keep as backup. Completely free, no storage limit, and no minimum purchase required. The only other service I have used as a consumer is Snapfish, which does require a purchase each year. I was not impressed with the small calendar I made with them: the calendar part was right on the edge of each page and the paper and images were dull.

Look at Adoramapix.com. I prefer them over Shutterfly.
