My computer is infected and from what I have read Fix Me Stick is the best solution short of a repair person which I can't afford.Any input would be appreciated.
Aloha,L.H.
I do not know what is wrong with your computer, but having been the go-to-guy for computers for a number of years I can tell you that most of these products will take your money and may not fix the problem and that with a little gumption you can usually fix it yourself. Although I do not personally shop there Best Buy is also known for relieving you of your extra friends.
For your information -

http://www.amazon.com/The-FixMeStick-External-hardware-based-programs/product-reviews/B006ZCHVM2The path you take is yours, but if you want I may offer the following advice:
- Viruses and Malware
Install Microsoft Security Essentials
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download- Run it, it will Update itself then run a Quick Scan.
- Let it finish then run the Full Scan. It will take some time.
- Malware and Spyware
Install Spybot
http://www.safer-networking.org/spybot2-own-mirror-1- Click the red Download button
- Open it and Update it then close that
- Immunize your computer then close that
- Then run a System Scan and Fix Everything it finds
- Garbage cleaner
Install CCleaner
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard- the link will start the download
- DO NOT CLICK THE GREEN DOWNLOAD BUTTON (it is an ad)
- Open it, wait, then click Run Cleaner in the bottom-right corner
- Say Yes and be happy!
- If you are really adamant install CCenhancer too and be sure to adjust the settings on the second tab at the top-left
Toolbars are another beast, but are pretty easy to defeat.
If you run all the scans, reboot and see what is what. You may need to do a few of these several times, but they will normally take care of most of the baddies. The rest can be Googled with a straight-forward solution. The only thing I do not suggest for the non-tech minded is playing around in the Registry. Take it in at that point.
Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it works out! Steve
