My computer is infected and from what I have read Fix Me Stick is the best solution short of a repair person which I can't afford.Any input would be appreciated.
Aloha,L.H.

I do not know what is wrong with your computer, but having been the go-to-guy for computers for a number of years I can tell you that most of these products will take your money and may not fix the problem and that with a little gumption you can usually fix it yourself. Although I do not personally shop there Best Buy is also known for relieving you of your extra friends.

For your information -

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2405102,00.asp
http://www.amazon.com/The-FixMeStick-External-hardware-based-programs/product-reviews/B006ZCHVM2

The path you take is yours, but if you want I may offer the following advice:

- Viruses and Malware
Install Microsoft Security Essentials
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download
- Run it, it will Update itself then run a Quick Scan.
- Let it finish then run the Full Scan. It will take some time.

- Malware and Spyware
Install Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/spybot2-own-mirror-1
- Click the red Download button
- Open it and Update it then close that
- Immunize your computer then close that
- Then run a System Scan and Fix Everything it finds

- Garbage cleaner
Install CCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
- the link will start the download
- DO NOT CLICK THE GREEN DOWNLOAD BUTTON (it is an ad)
- Open it, wait, then click Run Cleaner in the bottom-right corner
- Say Yes and be happy!
- If you are really adamant install CCenhancer too and be sure to adjust the settings on the second tab at the top-left

Toolbars are another beast, but are pretty easy to defeat.

If you run all the scans, reboot and see what is what. You may need to do a few of these several times, but they will normally take care of most of the baddies. The rest can be Googled with a straight-forward solution. The only thing I do not suggest for the non-tech minded is playing around in the Registry. Take it in at that point.

Good luck and let us know what you decide and how it works out! Steve

Aloha Steve,
I am doing all this on my phone and can't download on my computer.I clicked on the ccleaner link and it immediately downloaded to my phone.I'm technically challenged and poor.I have about 13 Virus/Trojans and 2 Malware issues and need a disc I suppose to install for removing all this.Is there a solution that's not too expensive.I have a HP PAVILION Laptop about two and a half years old.No protection for a year and a half. All this is very frustrating.Since Norton is installed should I just pay the minimum amount to have it fix it.
Mahalo for your help.
Aloha,L.H.

LostHawaiian, all of this is what I use and is free!
And no offence to Norton, but remove it if you can.

Norton is integrated into it I think. How can I install all those if I can't download. The price is right if I can get them into my computer.

Mahalo for your help.

Norton is a pain to remove, but the least of your worries right now. Can you use another computer and download them to a flash drive, CD or external hard drive?

I'm sorry that you can't afford a repair person. Here's my advice without knowing what kind of virus you have... backup anything important, format your hard disk, then reinstall using your set of recover disks. Good luck.

I downloaded the first one and it had a virus when I tried to run it and my computer delleted it.Seems Norton has control and won't allow it.I'll try typing in the next one.

Aloha L.H.

Your virus is lying to you. Common problem.

Download the files, but don't run them.
Store them where you will remember.

Reboot your compute while holding F8.
It will ask you if you want to restart in Safe Mode.
Choose Safe Mode.
- You are running on the basics

You can run a Norton scan here is you want.
Mostly I want to see if you can install the links now.
- You remember where you saved them...

Does reboot mean go to start button and shut down and then restart?.Do I hold f8 during the whole process.

You are in Safe Mode.
Install and run the links
The scans may take awhile.
