Why does this mean you have to replace PS? Can't you reinstall and then explain to Adobe why you didn't uninstall it and ask them to allow you to re-register it

Adobe's cloud is a mis-nomer, the program is downloaded to your computer where it is installed as normal. NOTHING is stored online. After that you only need to connect to the net once a month to have your subscription verified. At the same time you will informed if there is an update available, which you can choose whether to install or not.
Photoshop is still the best at what is does, however, it does more than most photographers need. IMHO Lightroom plus PSE are sufficient and both these are still available in boxes.

I totally agree! PaintShop gives me all that I need for <$100! It's easy to use, which I greatly appreciate.

I use Corel but have never used Photoshop....I like Corel it gives me what I want and have not used all that it can provide. I've used Corel since who knows when, the price works for me and I have no complaints.

Not true. You don't have to let cc do upgrades automatically. In fact, I never let it do upgrades/updates until I hear that there is a new feature that I want. That said, I have not done a single update. You don't have to use the cloud storage either. These are all choices you can make. If you don't use cloud services or do automatic updates, you don't use any band width what so ever.

Good to know. Thank you. I stand corrected.

I had to look that word up in the dictionary. I am just starting to learn how to use gimp and finding it very complicated after Picasa. Things like layers and channels are still foxing me but I am a little archaic myself. I'll report back if ever I am successful.

I see that. I noticed Staples still had some at 700.00 as well.

I found a new CS -5 which I think I will get. at 70.00

Is there only one copy available from your source. I am in the market for a copy of CS5 from a source willing and able to supply to Australia. (Amazon and Adobe won't sell Adobe products to Australia from USA and the price in Australia from Adobe is ridiculous)

Well here in Canada its 29.95 US or about 30.00 Canadian and that's a little much as far as Im concerned.

And PaintShopPro can do most everything PS will do, and full Ultimate version usually is under $100 to purchase!

I suspect those of you who are serious about your craft have now discovered the geniuses at adobe won't ship free standing Photoshop programs anymore. It appears you have to sign up for an outrages amount of money EACH month on their eponomously named CLOUD program to use CS-6. I crashed my computer and have to find a new photo editing software. Have any of you used Corel? and if so, how does it stand up to Photoshop CS-6

It does everything PS does.
Also have you considered GIMP? It is free and powerful.

I've used Photoshop since version 3, but my last version was CS3. I was really irked when I found out about this. But I've always understood that Photoshop Elements has 90-95% of the Features Photoshop has and most of what is missing involves workflow needed by pros.

Since I already had Lightroom 2.x, I upgraded that to version 5.x for $80 and bought an Elements 11 License for $99. LR is something like $140 for the whole version. So in theory you get 95 percent of the functionality for around $240. It's working great for me so far.

GIMP can do most everything PaintShopPro can do and the full Extreme version is usually $100 less than $100!

Look into Paint.Net. The current version is 3.5.11 (I think). It does layers and just about anything else you can imagine. I have just started learning it, but the interface is similar to PS. It is NOT a MS program, despite the .Net in the name, and it is free. I believe that there are Mac and Linux versions as well.

The recommended GIMP RAW editor is RAW Therapee. This is a free program, just as GIMP is, and it is truly excellent. If you have not tried it may I suggest you give it a try.

Although not part of GIMP, RAW Therapee enables you to connect with GIMP with one click.
