My wife noticed an increase in HB activity in our front yard over the last few days; so I took the opportunity to kick back, enjoy Labor Day weekend and attempt to photograph the little darlings.

Thanks for looking and I appreciate your comment. Standard issue Nikon DX AF-S, 55-300mm 4.5-5.6G ED kit lens coupled to a D5100 body

There have been hundreds of Hummingbird photos on the site lately. No 1 stands out in my eye as being one of the more memorable. I like the flower and the detail in the bird. Nice Photo.

These are really good. Hard to get. I set up and waited at my feeder for hours only to have them come out as soon as I give up!!! Still love to watch them. They will be leaving soon :(

Three of the nicest HB shots I've ever seen.

Just for curiosity's sake...how many shots did you make to get these??? How many times did the bird just fly right out of the frame??

Thank you very much for the compliment. I have been working diligently to progress from snapshot to photograph. So, I guess it's true... practice, practice, practice. Learning some post processing doesn't hurt either!

Can't remember where I heard this, but one trick is to just pull up a chair and let the Hummingbirds get used to your presence, eventually they feel secure enough to just go about their business ( of course, try not to make too many sudden moves).

Thanks, the mid-morning light over my left shoulder was almost perfect.

Thank you. That particular HB was quite territorial, so it would perch itself in small branches around the perimeter of our two hummingbird bushes to keep a watchful eye for interlopers.
