I THOUGHT THIS IDEA WAS COOL. Like anything else though, you can draw and animate anything you think of, but can it work?

Take a look at what the Chinese Bus Plan is. Pretty neat.

Really cool! What won't those Chinese think of next? Could be operational in Beijing next year. Company name is China TBS Ltd

I didn't see any tractor trailers in that video. That 'thing' would have to be higher to pass safely. I am sure there are plans for that like 'no truck route'.

That no truck route or lanes was my first thought too.

I noticed that cars just could clear the overhead. I just can not see that working here, especially in the bigger cities. What a traffic jam that would create. And then to revamp our Interstate System, what a headache.

P.S. Did you know that New Orleans had an overhead monorail system? New Orleans worlds fair 19??. It was taken down after the fair was over.

It could work in the midtown areas of most city's if they restricted truck trafic to the right. I think that the intended purpose is for high trafic areas. The interstates would be outside the designed usage.

China is building cities from scratch so they can experiment with "out of the box" thinking and design.
Some may work and some may not....who knows!

I think they glossed over the egress issue. Drivers in China have a high accident rate. How are you going to get them to stop to lower an elevator to drop off passengers? If someone doesn't stop is there a barrier? Where do the passengers go when they get off in the middle of the freeway?

Presumably there would be designated stops with access separated from the traffic.

My only query is how does it go round corners because as shown, it seems to be made of some flexible material?

Seems like exits are not in the roadway but to above platforms. Down to the bus and up to the overhead access.

Why not install monorails on the freeway medians?

in this country at least on the left coast, they have been turned into toal or diamond lanes.

I watched a special on CCTV about this last night. Sounds good in concept but seems likely to be problematic in operation.

Interesting. Thanks. Wonder if Houston could afford it?
