I've read some about this techniqure & decided to try it on several pictures, not impressed with the results on most of them...too saturated & dark. However, I did like these and would welcome any comments pro or con,

I like the 2nd one. What program do you use for this effect?

Do you have a program to decrease saturation, e.g. Photoshop Elements?

My only advice (remember, I just started doing this myself) is since we know saturation is going to be stronger, I suggest that you go into PSE and decrease the saturation some on the original, before you duplicate. Go to "enhance" select "adjust color" ...you have several choices , select "adjust saturation." You can adjust "hue" & lightness on the same drop down...I never touch hue & if I want to adjust brightness, I select "levels" under "adjust lighting". I'm sure as the devil not an expert, but if I can help someone enjoy their photos, that's great.

I just learned this technique myself, and your right, mostly too dark and oversaturated. But, with the right photo it looks great. Did it to a lighthouse my wife took, and it turned out nice, at least we like it.

Many times people will take a slightly out of focus pic and apply this technique to salvage it. Glad your getting on to the system. Would love to see the lighthouse.

Yes, I use Elements 7....10 enroute! I usually desaturate under levels...color adjustment. Might have to play with it some to get it right.

Nice shot, did you crop this from a larger shot?
