Lucky right time right place after many nights in the back yard. This is one of a 24 burst shot which created a nice sequence through the moon downwind pass into Las Vegas.

An interview with Cliff702

Wow! Please thank everyone for their votes.

1. How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I first got interested in photography as a young child about the age of 7 or 8, when my older brother bought a second hand Voigtlander and gave me his older camera. It had a bellows mechanism which slid out on rails and locked in one of two positions. Close up and distance. This would be around 1956-57. Finances limited my shots (film only in those days) to about one or two rolls of 128 film per year. I've owned many different cameras since then. Most notably Pentax K1000. I really got interested with the advent of digital photography and computers

2. Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
The only training I had was from books and watching and listening to others who knew (and still know) far more than I. I came over to the States from the U.K. in 1976, to work as audio electronics engineer for Carnival Cruise Lines and that's when I bought the K1000 (recommended by the ship's photographer) and read about A settings and how that affected depth of field, what stop down meant (very important when film is A, expensive, and B non editable) and the use of fill in flash to help with night shots. I had the whole Caribbean Sea and many countries and lots of sunlight for two years to practice.

3. What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I actually went outside to take a few shots of the moon and while setting up my tripod, noticed the plane approaching the moon. I was set up for some time lapse so quickly set my multishot and hand held the best I could. The sequence was shaky but I got a few good stills out of it. I have many videos of larger planes passing through but this corporate jet was just the right size for a single still. As my description says, It was a lucky shot.

4. What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used my Nikon Coolpix P100. A camera I take with me on short trips over my recently purchased Nikon D7000. The P100 has an x26 optical zoom and a fully adjustable viewing screen which is worth its weight in gold if you like setting your camera in non conventional positions.

5. Would you change anything if you could do it again?
Had I had time to attach a tripod, it would have helped refine the focus a little more and to steady the final sequence. I live in the Las Vegas Valley and only need to travel a short distance to get out of the light. This shot was taken from my back yard. As I said, lucky.

6. If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Photography is only my hobby but I'm spending more and more time as I approach retirement. I'm experimenting with time lapse on my D7000 and I'm very please with the results so far.

7. Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
I have published some time lapse projects on youtube.
Here are a few:
a) Venus transit http://youtu.be/3y7q8vlaFXI
b) Social comment http://youtu.be/GrB5dIctL5E
c) Annular Solar Eclipse http://youtu.be/GwyvJDuiyeo

Once again, my thanks to all who voted for my picture. I am truly humbled by this.

An interview with kc3m

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Been hooked on photography for over 40 years.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I'm a self-educated photographer trying hard to get better. To that end, I've participated in several international workshops with National Geographic and Magnum Photos. I enjoy photo journalism, street photography and event photography.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The opportunity to get feedback from others. The egg was part of a series of shots experimenting with white on white.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Canon 5dm2, 100mm macro, gitzo tripod, used a very old 8mm flood light array for lighting

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
I'd appreciate some feedback on this.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do? Enjoy life. After retiring from over 40 years in the energy field I've been able to redirect my interests to improving my photography.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
http://kc3m.zenfolio.com is my website. Check out my series on our recent trip to Morocco http://kc3m.zenfolio.com/p957073794 (turn on your speakers) I'm also involved in documenting the impact of North Central Pennsylvania gas drilling at http://www.pedf.org
