That's a big dynamic range - whites right through to blacks. Pity about the lack of detail in the whites. It may be better to bring the detail in the hat and jacket out at the expense of the detail in the almost-blacks. That's assuming, of course, that you're using an editor on it. It'd be interesting to see what that would do.

I did that on purpose because I wanted that sort of range. This was shot in color and tweaked in Silver Efex.

Tim, that was my assumption when I saw the shot and if I was doing it I personally cannot think of anything I would have done to make it any different. I love the way you did it!

For years, I shot in nothing but B&W film like Tri-X and Plus-X and enjoyed doing my own lab work. I would have been very proud to have starred down at a finished product like that!
