Trying to discourage German parents from home schooling is becoming an exercise in forceful police action:

This family is in Germany, but there are similar factions in America that want to force parents to enroll their children in government indoctrination schools.

You do realize that the curriculum the parents are attempting to teach their children contains a less than acceptable ethos. That would be like Christians in this country teaching their children that man and dinosaurs lived together...oh wait...those nuts already do that...never mind.

How many people do you know that are/have been home schooled, what the criteria is for home schooling and how verification testing is accomplished?

That's right, Rix....whether they're right or wrong, they must be force fed the government pablum. Of course, that's fascism, but nevertheless, we wouldn't want them to teach anything not government approved, now, would we?

If parents fail to home-school their children properly, then the government needs to step in - for the welfare of the children. This really shouldn't be an issue at all.

"Properly" is up for interpretation. Math and reading should be core subjects. The curriculum should should be close to the curriculum of public school. The content of that curriculum, however, is the choice of the parent. That's what this nation is about.

I disagree there. The welfare of the child must always come first; the parent should not be able to decide if the child receives an education or not. And the child's home-schooled education must follow the standards and guidelines set by the board of education, not whatever Mickey Mouse version of education the parent thinks the child ought to have. If the home-schooled child repeatedly fails to take or pass the exams required by the government, then the government must step in and take over the child's schooling.

That's not the point is it?
There are requirements for home schooling and the "schoolers" are held to a higher standard than the many of the traditional methods. Possibly a person should research the criteria for home schooling before passing judgement.

It's true that if a child repeatedly fails the standards exams an investigation is made.

Then again what is being done for the many students that repeatedly fails the standards exams while in the public school system.

How can parents that can't read and write teach their children how to read and write?

Would that be your Mickey Mouse version of the welfare of the children, rook2c4, or the government's Mickey Mouse version? You, my friend, are an extremely scary person.

How many illiterate parents do you suppose are going to attempt to home-school their children?

Rix has no first hand knowledge of what homeschoolers teach...he only knows one thing: he hates Christianity and he takes any opportunity to insult it.

Nothing more to it...just that.
