I've got the bug to buy another camera. I've got a Canon 60D so I don't want a dSLR. I want a grab and go camera that can still challenge me when I want it to. I was thinking about a G15 but with the G16 almost here and offering some definite advantages with Digic 6 I'm thinking pay the extra and get the G16. Then there's the G1X to consider. I have a Sony HX9V now but would like something a little larger than that. Thanks for any and all constructive commentary.

That is a terrible quandary. The G16 has a faster lens and more zoom, but a very small sensor, whereas the G1X has a much larger sensor. Personally I like larger sensors, but with a price difference of only $150, maybe you should get both. Or get the G15 now and save for the other two. GAS is a confusing malady!

Yeah, all 3 would be nice but it will only be one since I have the 60D already plus the little Sony. I think I'm leaning more toward the G16 but it's currently maybe 40/30/30 so no overwhelming leader yet.

Buy all three, send them to me one at a time for testing, and I'll keep the two you don't need. Anything for a friend (as long as it doesn't cost me money).

I'm going down your ".... or ???" route.

Look at the Fuji X100S - Here's a little "taster" to get you started - http://photomadd.com/review/camera-fujifilm-x100s/

I really like the looks of the X100 but it's out of my budget unfortunately. Thanks for an excellent suggestion though.

I am in the same quandary. I have eliminated the G15 because of the new G16. The price will drop within 3 months. The G1X seems to be a good camera. It has good reviews and many really like it. It has some drawbacks such as macro and speed of auto focus and fps. But, those do not seem too bad to me.

What to do, what to do..... Will there be a new G2X? Inquiring minds want to know!

Keep us informed of your decision and reasons why.

Everything I've read so far suggests there isn't going to be a G2X.

The G1X has roughly 6.5 times the sensor area of the 15/16, 14.3 megapixels vs. 12.1 although 12mp is certainly adequate for most.

The G1X is only a 4x zoom and the 15/16 are only a 5x zoom.

They all start at 28mm equivalent. The S120 coming out next month starts at 24mm equivalent which would be a major plus on indoor shots.

The 15/16 will close focus to 1cm where the G1X will only focus to 20cm, not good for anyone that wants semi-macro capability.

The G1X has a comparatively slow lens, f2.8-5.8 against f1.8-2.8 for the 15/16.

The G1X is slowest at 1.9fps with the 15 right there at 2.1fps and the 16 running away easily at 12.2fps.

The G1X goes through batteries faster at ~250 shots per charge vs ~350 for the 15/16.

The 16 also adds built in wifi and reportedly much faster AF.

So, on paper the 16 seems the winner unless the wider lens of the S120 is important and then it's a debate between the 16/120.

Right now I'm leaning in the 16/120 direction debating the wide end. I'm probably going with the 16 but still looking forward to hearing thoughts from everyone else. I know there has to be a fair amount of opinions out there.

If you're interested in a G1x, contact me in a 'Private Message', because I have one I'll sell cheap. (I recently bought a Sony HX-300, which better fits my needs.)

been fighting the same battle, i chose s120. i have an s95 that i have taken allover the world. the best camera is the one that is with you and it is ALWAYs with me in a small comfortable belt pouch including a spare battery and SD chip. It takes fine pictures on auto when you are in a hurry, which is most of the time for me, also will do bracketed exposures on program which is almost auto. pictures are good enough in general and excellent if you respect the limitations of the camera. should be significantly better for the s120

sorry dont see anything in PM inbox. if you want to see what the camera can do you can google "flickr canon s110", lots of good examples there. not a dslr but not bad. I would add that i have small hands so the camera fits me perfectly.

Something is wrong with the PM system. I have been sending messages to 0627ramram32, but not getting any replies. I have not been sending you any PM's. sorry.

yes i got an email and then realized everyone got your response.

if you are going for a little larger camera than pocket size, there seem to be a lot of rave reviews for the canon sx50 and the lumix fz200. For my purposes I like having a modest sized camera with just one lens with a lot of flexibility and owners of both of these seem to be very happy with them. you can see many discussions of both on this forum and photos on flickr. Apparently the neutral settings on the lumix are not ideal but several commenters have recommended default settings that produce superb photos.
