I'm going to be shooting some HS sports.

I'll be using a Nikon D2xs and a monopod.

What I'm looking for, is an 'L' bracket so I can mount my camera body to the monopod in Portrait orientation using an Arca Swiss QR plate.

Kirk doesn't make one, and Really Right Stuff doesn't list one either.

Anybody know of one?
Or, have one for sale?

Did you email / call RRS? I've found I can't alway figure out the details from their website and talking to someone directly has helped. I'd think they have a bracket for that body or could give an option. Of course ... they might not.

Kirk answered me right away.
RRS hasn't yet.

Another option I found might be to use a Custom Bracket/Stroboframe rotating bracket.

That doesn't make any sense. I want to mount the camera to the monopod in the portrait orientation. A ball head isn't made for that.

It appears that RRS closely equates its D2 accessories to the D7000 items. As you say, their website is confusing, but if and when they call you back, they will probably say the specs for your D2 are the same as a more common model.

They wrote back. No 'L' bracket for D2 series.

Funny. If you do a search for one, it presents a page in their catalog. Sometimes I think that, for a manufacturer of such high quality merchandise, they don't have the common (business) sense God gave a rusty crowbar!

Why not?? Mine does!! Put the ball head on, then drop it to the side!

Hi there,
I have an `L` bracket which I bought to use with my D2Xs and which was made by Kirk Enterprises for use with either Nikon D2H/D2X cameras. It is for use with the Arca Swiss type ballhead/plate. I used it with my Markins Q10 ballhead. If your interested you can make me an offer or contact me at ijdphotography@yahoo.co.uk.
regards,
Ian

I have a Manfroto 682B monopod with a Manfroto 3229 head. The head is a monopod head that flops from side to side 90 degrees.

If you leave the head loose and use the side-to-side you have 90 degrees either side - move the pod forward and back for elevation. If you have the head front-to-back you have elevation, moving the pod side-to-side gives you tilt.

The problem with, NOT USING AN L the camera is off to the side with a ball head. If you have a battery grip or a pro body like OP plus a long lens for action its very un-natural. It slaps around - you don't have control. I have seen that the L is the only answer. "JR"
