Has anyone held or used a Lytro camera? This sounds interesting because it lets one concentrate on the subject and composition and worry about focus later....

I've never messed with one, but I've heard that their pictures can be a bit soft. But hey, a soft image is better than nothing! Plus, you might be able to fix that in post.

I've also heard that RED (the people who make the EPIC and SCARLET-X video cameras) have a prototype video camera using the same concept as the Lytro. Too cool!

This came up on another forum. I went to their site; the images are interactive - you have to click on the image to get the area in focus - it's like focus stacking a macro. I can see where it would be pretty cool for web applications, but I can't see how the images can be printed.

"worry about focus later" . . . I have no words.

My guess is that you can click for focus and then export it out as a JPEG, TIFF, or something static.

What Legendary said.

My researc has shown the image quality not tha great and it uses proprietary software only for Mac and internal memory only so no swapping out cards to keep shooting.

I plan to wait a bit before investing in one.
