Don't let your computer tell you what to do.
If your computer is out of printer ink, try this before using a new cartridge.

Interesting. I'll have to get an Epson printer. :D

Is this only for Epson printers?

I tried Google, and Epson seems to be the easiest. With some others, you can turn off the low ink warning, but I don't like that idea.

That I will not do. Running a printer dry is a sure way to ruin it.
Never had a problem with a printer after a cartridge had run out of ink. After all in the old days that was the only way to tell that a cartridge was empty.

I never ran my printer dry, but I hadn't used it for an extended perod and some of the ink ports got plugged by dried ink. It's an HP
Photosmart D7160. Does anyone have any idea how to clean the ports? Any info will be gratly appreciated.

Paper is cheaper than ink. Ignore the warning and possibly waist a sheet.
Just put the print head in a shallow dish of water for a few seconds and then blot dry on a paper towel.

You can also clean the print heads using rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. No pressure needed, just a gentle swabbing motion.
