I Love Alaska but...
Hi everyone.
I am new here. I just returned from Anchorage, AK. after spending 3 1/2 months there while visiting my sister. I fell in love w/Alaska. It is obviously very different from the deserts of AZ, NV, UT where I live.
I love to shoot whatever my eye is drawn to at the time & every day if I can.
I shoot with a Nikon D7000 along with a Tamron 18-50mm F/2.8, Tokina 100mm macro F/28, Nikon 35mm F/1.8. Unfortunately I broke my Nikon 55-300mm shortly after arriving in AK.
I mostly shoot day and night landscapes and I enjoy macro photography w/ insects and flowers.
Please feel free to critique all my photos.
There's many bug guys here, so you will fit right in. Welcome aboard.
I lived in Alaska for 24 years. It's the most beautiful place in the world!! My opinion of course, :)!
welcome!! alaska-a photographers dream place.only problem is
"earth" is a photographers dream place,,if you look there is beauty to take pics,,everywhere..

Welcome! Your 1st photo here is really intriguing.....I looked at cropping it in a manner that would place the lighted building in the lower right of the photo and the moon and planet along the upper horizontal third line as in the rule of thirds. The planet would then be on the left hand verticle line of the rule of thirds. I can't say it improved the photo but it does work. I feel the photo is worth playing with as it is unique. I like it. I did not post the edited version of your photo as I don't believe it is proper to do so (also against the rules of this forum without permission) and I have removed it from my computer.

Thank_you much. I wish you had kept the edited photo so you could have sent it to me.
I think I followed your suggestion and I have included it. Let me know what you think. I believe this is a different version.

Ah yes. I was considering moving to Toquerville area but I have fallen in love with Alaska. So I am not sure yet where we will end up. It is just too hot here from spring thru fall for me lately. Maybe I will spend Apr thru Oct in AK would be nice.

That's basically the crop I used. I'd move the copywright to the lower left so as not to cover up the building and use a bit smaller font....maybe even a color other than white to not distract from the photo. Good job!
