I am trying to move files from a CD to LR4 and I get "could not move a file to the requested location (79).

I was working with these files in LR4 and accidentally deleted them.

When I go back to the original CD I get the above message even though all the pictures show up and are checked.

Any ideas?

Thanks

If you are working in Windows, the deleted images would have gone to the recycled bin and can be restored - if you have not cleared the bin.

You cannot move an image from a CD, try "Copy" and designate a folder for the copies.

Dirtpusher has the right idea but I would also look in your recycle bin. You might be able to restore them if you didn't delete so many that they wouldn't fit into the bin.

I have the originals on CD. I was able to copy them into Aperture with no problems.
In LR5 a new message comes up "some import operations were not performed, then the original message.
Reinstalled program still the same.

WOW what a mess.

No, not a mess. LR doesn't IMPORT an image, unless you specifically ask it to. What it does by default is POINT to the image.
Copy the images to a hard drive, then bring them into LR from there.

I just tried to import a new files from my camera same result.

These are all new problems that I have never seen before.

LR5 is arriving tomorrow. I think I will wait and see if that doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks to all.

Are you sure that the 'requested location' is online and has space available? And isn't set for 'read only'?

How would that happen I didn't change anything? Lots of space on hard-drive.

Switched catalogs and am able to import as normal. Somehow the old catalog got corrupted. Lots of work ahead but at least progress.

Thanks to all for helping.

A good reason to backup the catalog when you exit the program.

If it's corrupt, I don't think you can, not that I'm aware of...how do you know it's corrupt? To restore it...good question, never had to restore one...try this link

Within the bounds of your question . . . .
The LR catalog is like a book's index. It's pages of pointers, telling you where each image can be found on your computer.

If you move or delete an image in another program without telling LR What you did OF COURSE LR will now be pointing to the wrong location and will not be able to find your image.

In terms of a book index, you tore out pages from your book and got upset because the index is now 'corrupted'. You either have to put those pages back in the book where they were when you added them to your index or create a new index from scratch.

It's not a problem with lr4 that LR5 is going to fix. When you install the LR5 update, it's going to very thoughtfully preserve all your previous work from LR4, including your laboriously created catalog (index) -- now corrupted.

"Free advice costs nothing -- unless you take it!"
So . . . . Don't install LR5 until you have fired up either of the two wondrous
Courses that have been suggested in this thread..

move some images to a practice folder, pretend this folder contains all your images and practice on it. Start by creating a new catalog. Go to Windows Explorer. Delete a couple of images and see what happens to your catalog. Now go back to your Recycle bin and restore those deleted files.

Keep practicing on your dummy folder. It's easier to work with 20 images than with 20,000.
