I've had a lot of fun over the last couple of weeks taking hummer pics. Last year we only had a couple of black chinned hummers.
This year we've had a lot more. Which is great .... except now I'm trying to ID them. All of the guides show adult, male hummers .... which is sorta useless.
I think what I've been seeing are females, juvenile females and juvenile males. Maybe I shouldn't feel too bad ... it may not be possible to ID all of them in field conditions.
Since there are a lot of experienced birders/ photographers on this forum, I thought I'd ask for some help ID'ing these.
Right now I think I'm confused beyond all helping.
Thanks!

I'm sorry I am not an expert in the various hummingbirds you have in Utah. Being from the East Coast, our only resident is the Ruby-throated. Occasionally, we get a vagrant Rufous, Anna's or Allen's. My "Sibley Guide To Birds" has detailed information and shows juveniles and females. It is evident that, sometimes, it is impossible to tell them apart without having the bird in hand. check out these links as they might be helpful.

I spend part of the year in Colorado and that part of the year I join you in confusion. If you have an Audubon group near you contact them. I guarantee there is an expert that is a member.
There are 4 chapters that I found.
