Cameta Photo / cameta auctions

Has anybody dealt with these people? I have a Canon SX 40 and cametaauctions is selling on eBay a "lens kit" which includes:
1. Bower FA-DC67A Adapter Ring for Canon PowerShot SX30 IS & SX40 HS Digital Camera (67mm)
2. Bower 67-58mm Step-Down Adapter Ring
3. Precision Design 2x Telephoto & .45x Wide-Angle Digital Lenses (for 49mm/52mm/55mm/58mm)
4. Spare NB-7L Battery for Canon
5. Zeikos 3-Piece Multi-Coated Glass Filter Kit (58mm UV/FLD/CPL)
6. Zeikos 50" ZE-TR26A Compact Travel Tripod
7. Precision Design PD-C20 Digital Camera/Camcorder Case
8. Precision Design Flexible Tabletop Mini Tripod
9. Precision Design 5-Piece Camera & Lens Cleaning Kit
10. Precision Design Spudz Mini Microfiber Cleaning Cloth (with Elastic Cord & Case)

all for $65 + $15 shipping. I don't need the tripod or case, but the filters sound interesting and the battery itself is what I'm shopping for. As a package deal this sounds hard to beat. They have a "top rated seller" standing with eBay. Still this sounds like something that sounds too good to be true.

I recently bought a tripod case from them and am happy with it, but was willing to take a $15 chance on the deal. This is has a little more potential for the advertising exceeding the product. Here is the link to the auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Telephoto-Wide-Angle-Lens-Canon-PowerShot-SX30-SX40-HS-Digital-Camera-NEW-/360414658583?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53ea634017 OR you could go to www.cametacamera.com and find the same item in their store.

I'm far from being an expert, but I wouldn't want to pay even the $15 shipping cost for this, except maybe for the battery. I buy a lot on ebay, but I try for name brands and not lots of "throws-ins" that seem like the seller is offering more.

I would guess that #3 is not worth using, and #6-10 are nothing special - probably not top quality. You'd put them in a drawer and never use them. But see what other people have to say.

You could buy just what you want from them also, if you go to their site. Then again, you could find the same thing you want at other sites, such as B&H photo or any other site that sells photo equipment.
I've dealt with Cameta for several years (they are like around the corner form me), and have always found them to be straight and honest. I bought by D7000, 250-500 lens, SB600 and several other items from them.
For the "kit" stuff, don't bother. 90% of the stuff, you don't need or already have. And I've told the owner that also.

I've bought from Cameta before, had no problems. They're like all the big internet retailers, they put 'packages' together to try to recoup some profit off a price-controlled camera. Most of the stuff in the list is junk, as others have noted. I describe those 'kits' as beginner entrance fees. :)

That battery won't work with the SX40, anyway, will it?

EDIT: No, you need the NB-10L for the SX40.

Thanks for the info on Cameta. I've noticed that they are always selling on ebay. I don't think I have bought from them, but it's good to know that it's a reliable store.

When I lived in NH I bought some items from Cameta on Ebay,I was very satisfied with their service. Now that I live on LI I go to the store and very happy with tghe time they take to take care of customerz. Prices are great too. As for your list of goodies, it looks like generic entry level stuff. I would suggest buying what you need and forego the bundeling. The tripod of which thye speakj is availible at any dollar store
