First ever and flunked. Found out at the ripe (by the smell) old age of 70 that in all these years I have only been able to grow two small benign polyps. Both harvested, but not worth much.

Thank my lucky stars, I've had photography to fall back on all these years.

I feel somewhat like the New York Executive who retired and moved to Nebraska to start a chicken farm. After the purchase of 3 starter groups of baby chicks, he finally discovered his lack of success. As he told the manager at the local farmers co-op, he finally determined that he was planting the chicks a bit too deep.

Sorta feel that way about my near baren Colon.

Congratulations. Too many people don't even bother until it's too late

That's too bad, Kuz. You went through all that for nothing. Better luck next time.

Thanks guys..... Wish I had done it sooner.

Slept like a baby, and done in 25 minutes. Awoke refreshed to good news.

It took my general practitioner doctor 4 years of forceful urging to get me to make the appointment. It won't take me another 70 years. In fact I wanted to book another when I left... perhaps another week or two. The sedative hit in about a minute and a half. So FAST.

I think the natural fear or avoidance must come from the thought of someone we JUST MET, sticking a long black snakey thing up our butts with little headlights on the end of it.

I did take some comfort in the fact that when I looked over at the long black snakey thing I saw it was hooked to two digital like consoles that said Olympus on the.

I'm heading out now to shoot a large car show with my Olympus PEN. I've consistently used Olympus camera's since 1972 and most of their digital during that reign.

Among all the different camera's I've owned, the top contendors have been Olympus.

Again thanks for posting.

I had my first colonoscopy about three years ago for my 50th birthday. Told the doctor that I added car wax to the last dose of Miralax so everything should be nice and shiny for him. The crew got a good laugh at that. After it was done I ask for some of that stuff they knocked me out with... Was the best nap I had ever had (as long as I didn't think about what they did while I was sleeping). :)

I'm surprise that New York executive didn't buy "bird seed" instead.

Sounds like a real pain in the butt..

I got my first at 40 and am happy to have had it done. It may be uncomfortable, but dying of something from it would be worse. I know we couldn't be happier you are okay and commend you on getting a checkup!

Don't be afraid to start even earlier than 50. The 51 year old lady next door suddenly came down with severe stomach pain and other symptoms. Stage four that has spread to her liver and other organs. She may not last the year.

My Grandmother had colon cancer and so did my Mother. She nagged all three of us boys to get a colonoscopy before it was too late. We all just kept putting it off and putting it off. We all have our birthdays in August (the whole family) and for her birthday she arranged appointments for us. Now we all get them every five years, thanks Mom. :)

Seriously, the preparation the two days before is much worse than the actual procedure where you're lightly anesthetized. The preparation includes cleaning out your intestinal track so they can get a clear view. It's well worth it for the piece of mind. I made a joke in an entry above asking if Kuzano took any pictures. Most medical facilities will give you pictures if you ask for them.

Another test that saves many lives is having a dermatologist do a complete skin inspection. I've had three squamous cell skin cancers removed at different times. They would have resulted in a slow painful death in my 40's in the days before modern medicine. My dermatologist said that he finds an average of about 6 or 7 cancers a day, including a couple of very aggressive and dangerous melanomas.

We "hogs" are outdoors a lot and are thus prone to skin cancer, so an annual exam is called for. I go twice a year because of previous skin cancers.

My wife's a light skinned redhead. Baylor Hospital was having a free skin screening one year, and she had a spot she wondered about. They told her they didn't think it was anything, but that she should have it checked out further. She's an RN in surgery, so she went to a plastic guy that she knew to be a good doctor. He didn't think it was anything, either, but decided to take a biopsy. Turned out that it had just turned cancerous. Fortunately, they'd found it at the very beginning, but it was a melanoma. It was on her calf and they took a good chunk of surrounding tissue and did a skin graph. She's been cancer free since. TG.

Are you sure? Have you gotten the bill yet? I bet they were worth a lot more than you're thinking.

You would have preferred it done by an old friend?

Kidding aside, glad all went well.

I just had mine last Friday. As you know afterwards that you have to past some air in order for them to release you. Well I passed my test with flying colors and the nurse said it was a 9 on the Richter Scale.
