There are a plethora of items to use as props. I go to Home Depot and purchase two ceramic tiles for background - one back and one bottom. How about a roll of wall paper for background or FRP panels. You can pick up hats, glasses, flowers, tools and many other products for your subject to hold or be surrounded by. It's up to YOUR imagination.

Good Luck,
Larry

Invisible prop when photographing young children:
sit them down, then wrap a piece of scotch tape around the palm and back of their hand. They'll be trying to get it off - make sure you're ready for their facial expressions!

I like chairs - I have a papa san wicker chair that is great for them to lean against, sit in, couples sitting and one standing beside. I have a bent wood chair that is great for boys/men sit in backward with arms on top of the chair. I have a settee that the couple sits facing opposite directions and by twisting the one in back around it makes a perfect pose In our yard I have several areas that I have for picture taking. Most have shrubs for blurred backgrounds. I have trees that can be leaned against (as a bonus our neighbor has white bearch trees she lets me use. I also have a stump and a fence they can lean on. I have an old piece of 4x8 plywood I can hang from hooks out doors. It is painted with graffiti tht changes from time to time. Sometimes for Senior pictures I let the kids spray paint their own. Look of your yard and area and find leaning - sitting props. Go to tag sales. Have who ever you are doing pictures of bring what they are interested in.be it a football or violin. - Dave

Smd, are you looking for in-studio, outdoors or something different. For posing with people, or posing people on something? SS

Haha, I like this idea, Esther. Candid shots of the Grands using their brains.

Dumpster dive at large apartment complexes at the end of each month- people moving out throw away whatever they can't haul- window treatments, extra furniture, tables, lamps, wall hangings.

Esther's trick sounds like my grandmother's.....she used to occupy her little ones by putting some molasses on their fingers and a chicken feather and have them try to get it off!
