The more I read and compare, the more confused I get. I've been looking at Nikon p510 & L810, also the Canon sx50, power shot sx500, and Fujifilm fine pix hs30exr. Any advice welcome.
Gary

I took a bunch of 1 gig memory cards with me to Samy's Camera, and asked the sales clerk to put all the best bridge cameras on the counter and let me take a picture with each one, I think it was only 4 or 5 at the time. I was really more interested in the Nikon p510 and the canon sx40. Went home in loaded all into computer with LR4. Went back and bought the Nikon p510. and don't regret it. Since then sx50, p520 and a whole slew of cameras have come out. Do I need raw in my point & shoot, do I need a hot shoe. Nope, I have all that I need on my D7000 and D3100. What I do have is a tremendous long zoom that I didn't spend a lot of money for.

Never found a good P&S or a bridge camera. Only use DSLR now.

I use a Canon DSLR but if you have DOOK's posts using his SX50 I think you will be impressed

I dont think any of the sx 50 owners here have been disappointed in the IQ, ease of use and the remarkable versatility of the camera...I cant say enough good stuff about it.

Its by far and away the most fun camera I have ever owned...However my wife has stolen it...so thats a drawback.

The Fuji HS50 does raw and Amazon has a good deal on it at around $376. It also has an articulated screen.

only 42x +2x digital vs 50x +4x digital with the Canon SX50 which also does 'raw' and has the capability of a remote release.

Get the Canon SX50 you won't be sorry. I have won 4 photo contests up against SLRs since I bought mine. This is an example of one of those shots with no post production.

AWESOME photo!! GREAT example of the capabilities!!

Check with your dealer before you spend big bucks. ( I would guess that 50X would make a tripod manditory) ALYN

I have yet to use a tripod with my CanonSX50 even up to the 200X zoom.[/quote]

  I haven't figured out how to get my tripod out of the box yet!! But still get good shots at full optical and full digital!!

Didn't look at the Canon SX series, or didn't try to learn about them.
I won't go back to SLR, too much hassle with multiple lenses and heavy bags.....

I use a SX50 and love it. I upgraded from a 50D that got too heavy.

The HS50 does "RAW" and has remote release capabilities it is 16mp, shudder speed 30 - 1/4000 compared to 15 - 1/2000 of the SX50. The HS50 has 58mm threads so you don't need an adapter.

I can't remember when I got it I guess around four months but I have 5000 shudder activations already.

I'm just replying to let readers know the differences I know about.

Terry, the HS 50 sounds like quite a machine too. As long as you have a camera that does what you want to accomplish, you're a happy camper, eh? We don't all drive Fords :)

You are right, I drive a Honda:>)

I did a spreadsheet comparing the HS50 to the SX50 even before the HS50 was on the market here in the US and decided on the Fuji but yes I am happy with it and I can laugh at the friends who are lugging heavy SLRs and 500 mm lenses. I will be 70 next month so the weight was my main reason for going to a bridge camera.

Howdy, 'youngster', I've got you beat, considerably by a good number of years, but I'm sure you realize now why I also switched to the SCS, 'single camera syndrome' :D
