When was the last time you saw a great movie?
Great acting, great writing? New material?
Several months ago I read where one of the great directors stated that ALL the ideas have been used up. An actress stated today that there is no writing available today. Cartoons and "super hero" movies are only crap being made.
What's going to be the fall schedule of TV? CRAP, CRAP & MORE
CRAP!
How many more "shootem ups" will we get. How many more stupid "comedies" of gays will we get?
DVD makers are now going all out and showing all the smoking going on in the movies and TV shows of B/W and 50 yrs ago.
Along with the heavy drinking scenes of movies past.

A good war film is always greeted well, The longest Day, Saving Private Ryan and Rourkes Drift. I am not a film person.
Thin Man series, Boston Blackie, All the old stuff I had near forgotten are all coming back, and I am stocking up.
Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello. Road movies with Bob and Bing, Bob Hope series.
All this beats what ever is on 200 channels of nothing.

Even "Coming of Age" movies are all but extinct (e.g."Summer of '42"; "The Graduate"; "16 Candles"; "Ferris Bueller"). The new ones are raunchy/homosexual/ and/or stupid comedies that compromise the actors into drug/alcohol/sex scenarios.
A recent internet search featured over
300 TV "reality" shows (
http://sharetv.org/shows?gclid=CODh8eHjj7kCFYwWMgodNQcAjw#!cat=reality) that are
bombarding the networks!!
"Lunacy" has become the new reality.

I think what you are saying is that Hollywood hasn't changed much.....different day different crap !
I'm really going to think hard on this one but Sally Fields, Merrill Streep, and Sidney Portier are way up there. Honey Boo Boo is defineitly not in the running!
I don't watch TV soaps and sitcom's... the same old plot every show every day every week. I would rather buy DVD movies.

I think the same could be said of music. Loud, beatin and bangin and you wouldn't want to hear the lyric even if you could understand it.
If it's not superheroes it's vampires or zombies. Hollywood seems to be running out of ideas. It's quite possible to have a good horror movie without involving the supernatural as Dr Lecter would testify, or maybe a night at the Bates Motel would convince.

So pick up your camera and go shoot.
You mean I can go shoot w/o a gun?
What kind of a cannon you use :?:
When I hear a laugh machine, color me gone.

Do you remember when great movies were originally adaptions of even greater books? Think of 'Gone With The Wind'; 'Oliver Twist'; et al.
Now we get so much rubbish designed for an illiterate 15 year old: no plot, no dialog, except mumbling; no believable acting; just nonsense that appears to make money.
Oh! I get it. Modern settings don't cost much; you can get free ketchup with your burger. Phoney vampire teeth from the joke store and you are in business.
OK, so I'm old and grumpy today. I'm glad I don't watch TV, too many soaps.
About 5 days ago. Blue Jasmine

Must point out that Rourkes Drift was actually called Zulu, starring probably one of the finest casts ever assembled for a war film. I came out from seeing it the first time with aching teeth where I had sat with them clenched for most of the film.
Brilliant acting, brilliant story, brilliant photography.
