An Average Day; Seven (7) Shot Overnight In Chicago

Just another dangerous night in Chicago; You will note that in each case reported on, the names and the race of the victims have not been mentioned; in other stories about individual victims, both things were identified. I can tell you this much; I'm VERY familiar with Chicago; in every one of these shootings mentioned, it occurred in an all black neighborhood; so it's safe to assume that in every case, the victims of these crimes were all blacks.
(That could easily be verified by reading the Tribune)

You may be wondering, what difference does it make what race someone is if they've just been shot, or even shot and killed?

In some ways, it really make no difference what race, what ethnic "group", what religion anyone is; but for other purposes, (such as the recording of "vital statistics"), it does matter; It's important for many reasons to record and keep as much detail as possible about all crimes committed; listing all the reasons is quite beyond the scope of this story.

A 28-year-old man was killed and seven people were injured -- including a 7-year-old boy -- in shootings on the city's South, West and Southwest sides late Sunday and early this morning, authorities said.

About 9:50 p.m., two men in a vehicle were shot when a vehicle pulled alongside theirs and at least one shooter opened fire, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The shooting happened in the 1300 block of West 90th Street, in the Brainerd neighborhood.

One of the men was struck in the head and died on the scene, police said. He was identified as Jerrell Brooks, of the 9200 block of South Aberdeen Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The other man, also 28, was struck in the arm, according to police. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was listed in good condition.

About midnight, four people were injured in a shooting following a dispute at a bar in the 5100 block of South Archer Avenue in the Archer Heights neighborhood on the Southwest Side, Gaines said.

Three men and a woman were shot as they left the bar, according to police.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg, a 29-year-old man was shot in the neck, and a 26-year-old woman was shot in the hand, according to police. A 46-year-old man was also shot.

The conditions of all four were stabilized at local hospitals, according to police.

In other shootings:

• A 44-year-old man was shot about 1:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of East 122nd Street on the Far South Side, police said. The man was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.

• About 12 a.m., a 23-year-old woman was shot in the back in the 1100 block of North Mason Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. The woman was struck in the back and taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where she was listed in good condition, police said.

• About 9 p.m. Sunday, a 7-year-old boy was shot while shot while walking his bicycle in the 4200 block of West 5th Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police and relatives said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition and released early this morning.

So there you have it; in many cities, these events would be considered a "crime wave"; in Chicago, it's just an "average", or even a "slow" night; when I read all of this every day on-line, I can't help wondering......is it ever going to get any better? or, is it going to continue to keep getting worse? I'm sure there are people right here on UHH that will say, "make Chicago a gun free zone"! Yeah, that would indeed end all of the gun related crimes wouldn't it? Just "do away with all the guns"; I have an even better idea; (and equally as impossible to implement); just "do away" with all of the criminals!
It's already been pointed out to me that getting rid of all the "shooters" is even less possible than getting rid of all of the guns. So now I'm thinking, "the answer must lie somewhere in the middle"?

But wait.....does "everyone" even WANT to put a stop to all of this gun-related crime in Chicago ?; it would appear that not "everyone" does; just a few days ago, it was mentioned right here on the Chit Chat Forum, about a city in Georgia that had drastically reduced gun related crime, yet I don't notice anyone even talking about it; it would seem to me that if any city in the U.S. has found a way to reduce gun violence, that every other city would be very anxious to "try" the same things ? At this point, it would appear that isn't the case. Hey....we have people right here, already bragging about how "they" think "we're" going to replace one "gun-grabber" with yet ANOTHER "gun-grabber" in 2016 ! To my way of thinking, it appears to me that anyone advocating that, must be suffering from a terminal case of "HUYA Syndrome".

For anyone unfamiliar with this malady, the H="head" & Y="your"

Thanks for the time and effort to put this into the post.

What a mess. Gun violence is probably pointing in big cities to our African American citizens because they have no respect for other humans, even African Americans. No kind of gun control is going to work as intelligent, caring people are going to be the only ones to comply with it.

I happened to flip around with my remote a couple of days ago and happened upon a seemingly black show about a family in a diner. I was amazed at the 'stereo-type' in the show with black accents like des and dat and body language and absolutely stupid plots. The show actually made me mad and uncomfortable at the same time. Mad because of the stereotyping of depicting blacks as stupid and backwards and uncomfortable in that it was on the Oprha Winfrey Network and actually knocked down African Americans 20 to 30 years. But of course that was made up by blacks so ' it be good bro.'

Just another dangerous night in Chicago; You will ... (show quote)

How much of this do you suppose is related to the Mexican drug cartels ?
They are very much involved with the violence in other parts of the country.

You won't get any argument out of me about the drug cartels being involved with a lot of violence in certain parts of the country, but I'm a LOT more familiar with what's happening in Chicago than I am with the "other places", and I can assure you, Chicago's problems started before the perps in the drug cartels were even born.

It's a huge problem that has been many years in the making, and it isn't likely to be "solved" any time soon, unfortunately, and most certainly not by the present people in charge.
